IT AIN'T EASY!!!! I have watched several vids about this and everybody seems to taking off different random parts to get the job done. The 4.0's they are working don't look like mine. That doesn't help me at all. I finally found a vid of a guy working on a '89. Looked mostly like my '88. Looked pretty straightforward, he wasn't taking off so many parts. I gave it a shot, couldn't do it, got pissed and put everything back! I cannot figure out what parts REALLY need to come off to get the fuel rail off. I have two screws at the front of the engine that I haven't seen anyone else remove. WTF?! Looks like they must come off! See pic. I also can't get the injectors loose from the rail. I can get the clips off, but the part that supposedly "pops right off" ain't budging. I do not want to break anything. I have a leaking injector, see vid, so I need to get this done. Is there a source for this job that is simple and straightforward enough for a Neanderthal to follow along. That's what I need. 1370240546_gasspray.mov

Found during valve cover gasket install
NC Tom replied to NC Tom's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Okay, now I'm cornfused and I definitely do not understand the function. However, @cruiser54 seems to have been through this many, many times with no issues and real-world experience holds a lot of weight with me. I do understand that typically, parts aren't added just for looks. But, it is possible that what was thought to be needed in 1988 turns out to be incorrect. Just playing devil's advocate, not picking sides. -

Found during valve cover gasket install

Okay, is this the hose/line I am supposed to be looking for? I do get heat in the cab through the defroster. Honestly, I don't know if I get heat from the floor. Don't think I have ever checked. Not in a while anyway. -
Found during valve cover gasket install

You are right. If I didn't install it then I would have no idea where I put it! It's rainy here so I have not been out to check it. Just how many connections can be "bypassed" on an MJ? Seems like most of them. 😆 -

Okay. Is there a diagram around that I can use to reconnect? -
Just want to know if I knocked something loose, or is this just another strange, unneeded part under the hood. I noticed this canister, filter, alien tech while shoving hoses around trying to get the valve cover off. Don't see an open hose, so maybe it's nothing. Thoughts?

Agree. However, all the plastic parts are pealing the clear. Bumpers, pillars, roof deflector, license plate area. It if was just the pillars, black it is, but I don't think all the others would look right. I don't want my wife looking like she commutes from the ghetto! I'll keep looking around.

I thought about black or dark gray, but I thought it might like too much like a patch. Does Acetone remove old clear coat?
-
The parts that are bad are plastic. I was wondering if there is a way to remove the old clear and just reapply some sort of DIY friendly clear. I don't think repaint is needed since the color goes all the way through.

The plastic body panels on my wife's Honda are showing their age. Anyone know how to restore them without going to a professional?

Didn't read through the posts before I mocked this. Didn't see the protos installed. Posting this anyhoo. -
Thanks! I'll take a looksee!

Thanks! I'm just going to replace the injectors with, hopefully, better ones.

I did contact Trevor a year ago and he had a set of the 0280155700 for Renix trucks for $180.00 w/3 years warranty. Great price and a solid warranty. However, I need to stretch my dollars as far as I can. https://www.injectorplanet.com/?ref:MjcyNTU4LjU4LjI3NDg2NS5U had a reman set of the 0280155700 for $115 shipped. Less warranty but, at that price, I could get the Felpro valve cover gasket at the same time. I hope my research doesn't fail me. I found no negative info about injectorplanet.com and what I did fine appeared legit. Unlike motormanfuelinjection.com. Who I researched and decided to stay far, far away!

Folks, my MJ is having all kinds of issues. As I look for one, I find another. It runs well and it is my DD. My most pressing issue is a strong fuel smell. The rubber lines connecting to the fuel filter were leaking, so I replaced those. However, that didn't fix the issue. I stopped by a garage today to talk to a mechanic about it. Upon first look into the engine compartment, he noticed an injector was wet. Could be the problem? The engine was smoking a bit when we lifted the hood and he said the valve cover gasket was leaking which explains why my cover and other components are covered with a thin film of oil. Honestly, I thought that was from normal wear and age. However, I do burn oil. Also, a neighbor suggested I check the fuel tank gasket. Okay, maybe that's the problem? Or, maybe they are ALL the problem? So, would a leaking valve cover gasket account for a wet injector? If so, do I replace the valve cover gasket before replacing the injectors? I will use a Fel-Pro gasket. Anybody have any experience with these injectors? https://www.amazon.com/JDMON-Compatible-0280155710-0280155700-1987-1998/dp/B087CV8BLW/ref=sr_1_4?qid=1674855794&s=automotive&sr=1-4&vehicle=1988-42-348-334-34-31-8-8-3364-244-8-2-1766--3&vehicleName=1988+Jeep+Comanche or, do I replace the gas tank gasket? Is there a gas tank gasket? Only one I can find is on the gas cap. Thanks everybody.

I watched it for a long time today. Didn't notice anything as bad as that image. Very, very slight wobble, didn't really look off.

Don't know if it's a belt. Only really happens when it's cold outside and definitely when it's cold and wet. It was suggested that I check the harmonic balancer. That's why I bought the scope. However, I'm not clear on how to check it with the engine running.

I did #5 today. I am not good at all with a multi meter and the one I have is a Harbor Freight special. If I did this right, I'm showing a just under 2 ohms and it's steady. Wiggling the harness has no effect. Image attached. Then I did #6 and it does seem to idle smoother. After reading #7 and #8 I decided they may be too technical to tackle today. I am definitely intimidated by electrical work. BTW, opening those dang wire looms in a major PITA!!! Also checked the throttle body and it looks really clean. Didn't need much cleaning. No sticking when moved manually. My occasional high idle must be something else.

That's what I figured, but thought there might be more to it. That means that while the engine was "chirping", the probe offered no help. Not yet, anyway.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am back at checking it out today since the weather is very nice! I did buy a stethoscope, but I don't know how to use it to find problems and I'm actually kind-of scared to be poking that probe around a running motor. LOL! Any directions on using it to find leaks and squeaks is welcome.
