I'm doing just fine by myself I'm just learning how things work and what better way to learn then by restoring a comanche (am i right) any who i got the new carb on there and i was able to get the motor to run with the new carb no problem i will have to agree with Green Mesa the new carb is simple to use and works great, therefor its better then the old varajet carb and thats probably why it cost twice as much as the original carb also i put the carb gasket with the part number facing up, the instrustion book did not specify what side was up and the old one was the same texture on both sides so it was not the same as the new one (texture wise) also i need to get another PCV valve to plug into the passenger side then run them to a tee and connect them to the rear vacuum port then i need to put the charcoal canister back in there and connect the front vacuum port to that so basically to make it simple two PCVs to the rear and one charcoal canister to front does that sound right? gas seems pretty simple i will have to just add a filter and the distributor port is plugged for now until i get the vacuum controlled distributor last thing i would like to add is the choke so Green mesa are you saying that you need to send it 12 volts when starting the car then once its running you let go of the key and the voltage drops back down to zero am i correct on that cause i can always rewire the choke to work with a new ignition switch i just need to know how its designed to work and thank you for your help tomorrow i have to see if i can get a engine timing pointer indicator so that i can properly set the timing with a gun/light anyone have any clue where i can get on thats correct for my engine ?

So the rear on goes to the valve covers but what does the front one go to I don't know what a fuel bowl vent is and how should I wire the choke from scratch
-
Not really it comes with "Typical Install Instructions" so it just list what you have to connect, it dosent specify any specs for specific model vehicles
-
also what is this port for ? is it for the PCV valve on the other side of the engine ? do i connect my gas / throttle cable to the one on the right and my down shift tranny cable to the one on the left ? i beleve this is the gasket between the carb and the engine but what way does it face for installation ?? i will look in the book to see if it mentions it anyways as always thanks for reading guys and thanks for any help hopefully i will get this up and running today

Thanks for uploading the pics Green Mesa so i looked threw all the info and i have a basic understanding of what i have to do but here is a list of all the questions i have ... Here are basic pics of the new carb for reference: Ok so correct me if I'm wrong this is whee you connect a vacuum line from the distributor this is where you connect the PCV valve or the exhaust that comes from the valve covers also the fuel line goes in on the port in the far right of the pic as for my brake booster line it looks like mine just goes from the brake booster to the back of the engine
-
Currently the electrionicly controlled distributor I have works fine but after I get the new carb on there and test the engine a little I will call rock auto and ask them about the one vacuum controlled diatributor that they have so yes I do plan on getting a new distributor just haven't got there yet
-
My distributor does not have a vacuum line it is electronicly controlled
-
ok sounds good
-
oh ok makes sense after green mesa posts those pics i will put it on the truck and see how it works the sucker is heavy tho
-
ok got the new carb in havent had time to install it yet mostly because I'm not sure exactly how to hook it up and i really don't get why the hoses are pre cut, why can't it just be one long hose that i cut myself and also why does the hose not even say "fuel line" or "fuel safe" do they want me to assume that its safe for gas with no label ???
-
link does not work on my desktop
-
i will have to give them a call and ask also my carb should show up tomorrow
-
the two that you talked about don't have any wires to connect to the ignition coil and yes i see what you mean by mine the picture looks great but the description says its not vacuum advance i will have to call and ask them about it
-
what i ment was we are trying to tune the idle speed but can't get this carb to work the way we want so I'm gonna put the new carb on and hope fully it will be nice and easy also i like this new carb because i can put a vacuum controlled distributor on it and get rid of my computer thats controlling the current distributor yes can you post some pics of how it looks if i get this distributor http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=1123678&cc=1181393&jsn=395 then will it simply work by plugging it into the ignition coil and then connecting a vacuum hose to it do you know how its suppose to be hooked up
-
ok so i got a guy to fix the timing on my engine and it now runs but now where trying to tune it and its to hard with the stock carburetor so I'm gonna get the weber one does anyone have any tips on how to install it or things to look out for i already know about the tie down bolt may be to high and i might have to grind it down but do you guys suggest anything else also here's the carb I'm getting https://www.morris4x4center.com/weber-carburetor-38mm-dges-2-5l-or-2-8l-k490.html

Carburetor After-Market Question
AMC86Kid replied to AMC86Kid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ok so i looked at the first cylinder hole and it appeared to be 180 degrees out of phase so i repositioned the distributer and tried my best at it but just got some bad noises and a back fire so i think I'm gonna tow it to a shop and pay someone else to set the timing for me i really don't want to test it further for fear that i could ruin something else -

Carburetor After-Market Question
AMC86Kid replied to AMC86Kid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ok so i turn the crank shaft till i feel compression then stop and line my first spark plug up with the distributer then turn it a little bit counter clock wise and then follow the firing order in a clock wise motion around the distributer with the rest of the spark plug wires and see it she will start from there does that sound right to you -
Carburetor After-Market Question
AMC86Kid replied to AMC86Kid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ok so i turn the crankshaft pully till i feel compression from spark plug 1 then i have to turn it back about 10 degrees (so counter clockwise 10 degrees) and then when i drop my distributor in how do i know where to line it up i see your yellow and white spots but what are they suppose to line up with -

Carburetor After-Market Question
AMC86Kid replied to AMC86Kid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
ok so i found the notch and i get that if i turn it i will eventually feel the air pressure shoot out of the spark plug hole but how do i know thats its the top dead center of the compression and not the exhaust ? -
Carburetor After-Market Question
AMC86Kid replied to AMC86Kid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
that guys wife is a terrible teacher but anyways yes i agree the timing must be off so i shouldn't try to run it no more until i know I've adjusted the timing correctly good so we have figured out our problem but now how do i fix it i can locate cylinder one yes and i do see the notch on the crankshaft pully wheel but i have no timing cover or bracket to show me where my degrees is so how should i go about this ? -
Carburetor After-Market Question
AMC86Kid replied to AMC86Kid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
after watching this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHX1yXVyIMg i believe that the timing on when the distributer fires each cylinder is most likely off because the crank shaft was turned to set the valves so i have to figure out how to get the timing right
