  1. does the tab come completely off or just half way off?
  2. Hey guys I was just wondering if anyone could help me out or send me a link on how to take apart the wiper blades so I can take the plastic screen underneath it off to paint? Just wanted to double check here so I don't end up breaking it.
  3. oh ok i will try to shim it then see how it sits and then weld it in ok thanks
  4. I was wondering if anyone could shoot me a link or give me some advise on how to fix the cracked door hinges. I am struggling on repositioning it back to the vehicle so that the door will fully close in the correct position. Are there any tips on how to get it mounted in the right position?
  5. oh ok then i will get the one from rock auto and see how it looks
  6. is it possible to get convert my current electric distributor to a vacuum advance one ?
  7. so what do you think ? should i just order it and see what shows up in the mail ? if its missing the vacuum advance i can always just install it on later right
  8. thanks how do i know which one or what size i should get ?
  9. Green Mesa XJ i think you read my post wrong here let me try to explain it better ok so they said that the item will look just like the picture displayed here's the pic : however the "W/O Label" means that it comes as is but without that round golden metal thing in the top right of the pic (does anyone know what that piece is called) i then asked them where can i get that piece because without it the distributor is useless and they then kinda told me IDK
  10. ok i will try to get a timing tab and get it on there and yes i called rock auto about the vacuum advance distributor and they said that they do sell the distributor but without the round metal vacuum piece that the hose connects to so I'm not sure where i can get my hands on one of those pieces
  11. oh i havent done the timing yet with a gun i was just turning the distributor and seeing when the rpms would sound lower should i do the timing first and then tune the carb or do i tune the carb then do the timing ?
  12. ok so i have the Weber K490 38 DGES carb and as i was trying to get the timing right on the motor by turning the distributor i found a spot that i liked and then gas the carb a little harder it then had one huge back fire that made the engine turn off i turned the motor back on and it ran ruff then shut it off again what i noticed was that the throttle no long moved in proportion with the air flaps on top of the carb ( by the way whats the official name for those top two flaps )when the carb is warm but they do move in proportion when the carb is cold is that normal and is there any change that i damaged my carb with the back fire ? here's how it moves when its cold after it backfired and it was warm it did not move in sync with the throttle is that normal ?
  13. well i have to hook up the charcoal canister to something so i guess i will do it like this run vacuum line from here: to here: then i got to figure out how to get a timing tab on the motor so i can set the timing right with a light-gun and of course see it it still over heats or if the new head gaskets fixed the problem
  14. ok so I'm gonna do the vacuum lines today and i was wondering if anyone knows whee the vacuum port on my EGR valve should go ?
  15. yes but unlike him i will get the original air filter to fit on there much neater rather then just banging the crap out of it with a hammer like he did
  16. my current cover has no marks on it so i will just have to get a chevy one on there somehow
  17. it all depends on how cheap they are and how good are you at installing them if it was up to me i would do it, but only if i can get them cheap because i know that there will be a lot of custom fabrication to get it to work otherwise i would just spend more money to get the correct parts because that means it will be less work so you need to ask yourself (are you willing to put in the effort) or (is the amount of money I'm saving really worth the work)
  18. yes there are two cables one for gas and one for tranny
  19. Any one know where i can get a Timing Tab or a Timing Positioner for a 2.8 Looks like this i need it to adjust the timing on my 3.4 my rebuilt engine doesn't have one
  20. in the diagram picture you posted the arrow that points to (PURGE SIG) is that the bottom port and (CANISTER PURGE) is the top skinner port also the throttle and tranny cables on the carb how do you have yours connected ? is yours a automatic tranny like mine?
  21. no from my experience i would say you don't have to but it is way easier to paint the vehicle if its in two pieces
  22. so i should connect it to the "carb bowl vent" which should be the middle one (does it make a difference if i connect it to the top or bottom port ) thanks for the PDF my kit did not have that one
  23. well this is what i will do then i still have the charcoal canister http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=45267&cc=1181393&jsn=387 i will run back port to a tee and connect the tee to the two pcv valves then connect the front one to the charcoal canister but I'm not sure which port to plug it into on the canister do you ?
  24. ok so i need to send 12 volts to it when its running then turn off the voltage as the engine turns off thats simple i can do that now for the two larger vacuum ports are you sure the one in the front goes to the charcoal canister and the one in the back goes to the pcv valves? in the original pics you posted you have the driver side pcv valve connected to the front vacuum port then it tees off and runs toward the charcoal canister so I'm confused where each line should correctly go is there any manual that goes into more detail about this specific carb?
