  1. Thanks, I would probably do that. It seems the cheaper way to go, and more praticle. I will wait for the D60 front untill I get a donor diesel engine, unless I get a good deal sooner than later. Thanks again to all
  2. What does "0 caster angle" stand for? I'm sorry but I'm just learning all this stuff, so you'll have to explain things to me when you post, lol. Like when you showed me that picture of the two Axles.
  3. Yeah I love Scouts. I learned how to drive in an old 3 speed Scout, the family still has it. But I'm a Comanche fan now. I would like to use parts from a Scout, but only if they are friendly. I was just curious what the Axles were like on those Scouts, for swaps in my Comanche. I've made up my mind on my Axle choice. I want D60 front and rear, idk what donor or where to get it. I'm going to be patient and wait for a good deal. I might would use the D44 front and rear from a Scout if I found a good deal, but I'm shooting for D60s. My Wife leaves Saturday morning at 0600. :'( :( :'( :( So I'll be starting my build thread Sunday. Thanks all for the support. please feel free to leave some advice for my build. thanks again
  4. What does "ford drop" stand for? Would my Dad's 78 Scout diff be on the same side as the older one?
  5. Do you think they came stock in that year? http://littlerock.craigslist.org/pts/1472395185.html Here's the craigslist link. Its funny because it's not the only Scout on craigslist claiming to have D60s front and rear
  6. I'm looking at an older International Scout maybe year 69; It has front and rear Dana 60s. My Dad's got a 78 International Scout with I believe has Dana 44 front and rear. :D :D :D I need to know how compatable or "friendly" would these be for a swap for my Comanche? :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: Thanks,
  7. Just grab fabric and use spary adhesive; be sure not to make it too short
  8. TY all faithful pete lol
  9. I'm heading down to Dallas today and need to know the prices on a front Dana 60 from a 1978/79 Ford F350. It's the axle I need for my build! :D :D :D :D here's a link for one on Craigslist. Is it the right price, or to much? I'm looking for a fair price or a good deal. http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/pts/1458923164.html Thanks all,
  10. This I believe is the axle I'm looking for. Is it a good deal? Or fair at least?   http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/pts/1458923164.html
  11. I went to a Junkyard the other day; seen nearly thirty XJs and only one MJ. This JY is in the middle of the city and is stripped to sell stuff for profit, so I couldn't find much of anything useful. I had a wide selection of 2 door XJ bucket seats but they seem to be all broken in some way.  Do the springs and mechanical parts in them hold up quite well??? I would get the seat even if they where covered in nasty stuff from the great beyound if I knew that they where mechanicallu sound.
  12. Are you saying that 500 pounds is to much? I'll be getting the D60 from the F250 and it weights the same? Are you saying that I should possibly go with lighter axles for my truck? What are some of the weights of the axles like D60 F350 front= 500 lbs D44 F250 front= ___ D60 F250 rear= ___ Ford 9" rear= ___ btw, Thank you very much for all the help, I've been learning a lot with this forum and I'm glad to have helpful people willing to give their time to help me with my new hobbie.
  13. "fit" as in, just as easy as the F250 D44 front end. On a scale of difficulty where do I stand? And where can I get this axle from? random auto parts or is it rare?
  14. Sno-Fighter truck, anyone ever heard of it? Aparently it's a special model of a F250 or something that fits one that came stock with a Dana60 front end. Here's a picture of the D60 on a 1978 F250 Sry... haven't figured out how to post pics yet Will this axle fit on my comanche's front end?!?!?!?
  15. Sorry to barge in on your post, but I'm heading to the salvage yard tomorrow and there's over 30 XJs there with plenty of seats, sadly only one MJ :( Anyway, I've got the same problem and I'm going to pick up bucket seat tomorrow. I will get the seats from the 2 door XJs with strait rails. But my main reason for barging in is that I have long legs and I'm trying to find the seat that go the furthest back against the cab... I can see that in those pics they are reclined and prolly not all the way back on the tracks. Thanks for the great information in this thread
  16. Most of the F250s I've seen are restored and are going for 2,000+. Is there a place that I can post what I'm looking for and wait for people to respond?
  17. yes. I meant that. lol
  18. I was looking for a whole truck too. Guess I'll have to check graigslist
  19. :fs1: No luck at the salvages yards yesterday. I guess it's hard to find a F250 year 78-79 at a junk yard. I guess people value them for their off road parts? If so, where else can I look?
  20. Well, after looking up after market axles I've decided to go with a donor F250 78-79 ford! Later when I get rich I might build one frame up with the perfect parts. Can anyone link me some pics of trucks using the 78-79 F250 drive train? I want to know my lift options and how it's going to set. TY~~!!
  21. Are there any donor trucks with a good fitting D60 front axle?
  22. No I haven't. Would that be my best option, since I want to go that way? Then I will finalize with d60s. I was thinking why not both from a donor 73-79 3/4 ton but after market are sounding better. Can you share refrence material with me? link/web site or books to buy
  23. How big are your tires going to be? What type of wheeling will you do? what's your budget look like? Tires: Between 35-42", I want slightly larger than the basic 33s they everyone has. Wheeling: I am going more woodsy to rock climbing rather than all out mudding. I wouldn't mind a little mudding. I'm not sure how big I will go, but I want to be well capable. Budget: I don't want to go all out and order high end custom everything, but I would if I need it. I don't want to spend money and time on something that won't last. That's why I am considering the axles like d60s front and rear, possibly because they would last longer and I wouldn't break them and they would be strong enough for my needs. basically I want to complete at least the drive train excluding the clear coat paint and exterior body work, and excluding the engine swap for under 8-10 grand. before my wife gets back in 14 months. So that means: Lift, Transfercase, Tires, Axles, Undercoating misc work painting coating, wheels, transmission, driveshafts, brakes, suspension, (and what ever else I need, idk all yet)
  24. Also~~ I'm going to take the frame to get powder coated. I'm thinking of other parts that I could do, like the axles. Are they worth it? or should I stick with a less expensive route? Basiclly will the axles last for years without breaking
  25. Thanks for taking your time and showing me the difference between the axles. So I will go with my original plan with the 3/4 ton. The 3/4 ton have D44 in front; does it sound good or should I go for a D60 front to match the rear? what's the pros and cons? If I get a complete donor, would it be best to use it's drive train? What specific parts could I use? I'm new to this, but learning. I understand basic stuff atm. :smart: Since I'm doing the high torque engine swap and spending a lot of time and money I want to do everything as close to perfect as I can, and get exactly what I need. :hmm:
