Or you can DL the whole thing in much better quality from The Pirate Bay: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5245248/Top_Gear_14x06_HDTV_XviD-FoV_[eztv]

Actually it first aired in England last December. The American broadcasts are delayed.

They 4-wheeled a Samurai, a Land Cruiser and a Range Rover across Bolivia. Going through the rain forest, over the Death Road (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yungas_Road) and the Andes mountains. Some hilarious stuff and awesome landscape, just epic. The best episode of Top Gear I've ever seen! I'm downloading it and going to burn it to DVD.

The MJ lives! Finished installing new motor mounts, new transmission mount and got the alternator hooked back up.
-
Replaced a fusable link the PO had "fixed". I also picked up new motor and transmission mounts. Managed to get one motor mount installed but the passenger side mount is right against the alternator. If the bolt was the other way around it would just slide off. I don't want to pull the alternator just for one bolt so I'll try cutting it off tomorrow and just buy a new bolt. Here's the old motor mount I pulled today and the new replacement.

I checked the alternator and battery and both are fine, so I started checking continuity on wires leading from the altenerator. And I think I found the culprit. Checked the continuity between the alternator and the broken end of this wire and this is the one leading from the alternator. It was connected to this next to the alternator. Looks like some DIY splice hack job. After unwrapping the electrical tape the two ends look like this. I'm gonna see if Kragen can get me the correct wire.

Ok it might be electrical. I drove it around the neibourghhood and found a couple things. First the battery guage is reading just above 9v (I checked the battery with my multimeter and I'm getting 12v at the posts), also the turn signals are really slow. And my RPMs remained high (1500 or so) at idle. It finally dropped after a few minutes. Maybe a bad ground somewhere?

So I was going to to a little wheeling up behind Rattle Snake Mtn today. I head up the road by the water tower, get a little ways in and the Jeep starts lurching really bad. Enough to kill the engine. I manage to get it turned around and slowly head out. It was almost impossible to keep it moving forward smoothly on the dirt road. Its just lurching forward. But as soon as my tires hit the pavement it smooths out considerably. I was able to get up to 35 mph but as soon as I hit any kind of bump (manhole, transition in the pavement, pot hole etc.) it lurches. Kind of feels like when you have it in too high of a gear for the speed you're traveling. I did manage to limp home at least. What do you guys think? Clutch plate worn out? This is my first manual vehicle so I'm not sure what the problem could be or if its even something I can fix myself. Follow up: Ok it might be electrical. Question about NP231 transfer case
Philistine replied to Philistine's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't know yet. I asked, just waiting for the seller to reply. -
Will a NP231 transfer case with a 21 spline fit my '86 MJ with an AX5 transmission?

Did a little mid week wheeling today. What a great trip! The weather was just perfect and the trail was a whole lot of fun. 8 rigs in all made the trip out. It was a little more than an hour and half trip to the petroglyphs. The road was steep, narrow and rocky at times with a couple small water crossings. Enough to give a stock rig a small challenge, I just rolled over everything. :brows: Dumped all my pics here: Here's a select few:

Man that sucks. I second contacting the BBB. Not sure what recourse you have. If there was a sales contract written up you would have legal standing. Did they deposit the check? That could also consitute a contract. Some states just a handshake can constitue a contract.

I'd do what she says. :D

Yeah that's factory original, including the decals. Someday I'm going to get it repainted and have the decals redone to factory condition. The clear coat is wearing off some and the decals are a bit faded. sheesh man pushin all that with the mighty 2.5!!!!!!! How is that to drive? Just curious cos I was thinkin about gettin some bigger tars on mine too already...Oh and what gears? mine has 3.55's in it with 5 speed 4 banger. It has stock gears (4:10s I'm told but I have to open the diff to be sure) and it's a dog on the highway. But you don't go with bigger tires because it'll drive better on highway. It does fine in the dirt and ok on the rocks. I'm going to put in 4:88s hopefully before summer hits.

Most durable paint - out of a spray can

I've heard good things about Por-15: http://www.por15.com/ -
Is this her sister? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Sq-VmBMHkw

I knocked out the tap I broke in the front bumper and mounted my front plate.

I'm not planning on making it a hardcore wheeler yet. I'm thinking more along the lines of an expedition/mild trail rig right now. Something that could handle say 80% of the trails out here. Down the road I do want to be able to run the Rubicon and Fordyce sometime but I'd proabably look into building up a Wrangler instead for that kind of wheeling (something with a shorter wheelbase).

Thank you for the input everyone. Looks like 4:88's is the way to go.
-
I have an AMC20 in the rear (which I would regear to match). I know him thru a local forum, he's an upstanding guy and has had the axle on his rig for a while. He's upgrading to a D44 and is willing to cut me a deal on it.

The PO of my MJ did a lift and 35's but did not regear the axles. I want to regear them to get the power back on the highway (I can't get into 5th right now) and improve offroading (a better crawl ratio). Would 4:88 gearing be OK? Would that make the RPMs to high for the highways? The MJ is mainly for offroading and camping. A guy I know is willing to sell me a HP D30 with 4:88's installed cheap (for less than I could buy the gears themselves).
