She tapped the car in front of her, then got hammered by the guy behind her. She did not have rental coverage and had the only vehicle in her house, college kids....
So I loaned her the '92 MJ, I only got to drive it for 3 weeks!
I learned one thing from this, there is a thing called Gap Insurance that you can get when you purchase a car. Apparently, regular car insurance only pays what the car is worth regardless of what is owed to the bank. Gap insurance covers the difference. She owed $15,000 and the truck was worth $10,500. The extra $4500 would have been out of pocket if not for the Gap insurance. She paid $250 for the Gap coverage. I have purchased several vehicles and never heard of this, fortunately I never had to total a car.
I asked what State Farm wanted for the truck and they quoted $993. Not worth it with the drive train most likely damaged.
