  1. Ok thanks. I was in the middle of swapping out the rear vac harness when I snapped the pic I eventually connected those lines.
  2. This truck has decided to educate me right I guess. I drove it Monday for part of the day and about midday I was going back by the house and while coming down the dirt road it died on me and was hard to start so I parked it until last night. The new rear vac harness came in and I installed it last night and replaced a hose that was coming from a vac canister on passenger side to a plastic tube that goes along the firewall and ends at the airbox. I drove it down the drive and a mile or two to the gas station. No problems. I pull out of the gas station hold it wide open and at WOT is kinda fell on its face and when I let off to about 75% throttle it took off. I got about 1/4 mile before our dirt road turn off and I pulled over to a pull off on the side of the highway. AS soon I come to a stop it died. I cycled the key and it cranked for a second and started. It was running kinda rough so I drive on and and turn down the drive way. It dies again about 1/4 mile down the dirt road and I cycle the key and it starts after a sec. I drive to the the first gate (its closed because cows are in the front field) and it idling rough and I go back to the tail pipe and it smells like its running rich. I make it to about 1/4 mile from the house and the cows are in the road. When i slow down to wait for them to get out of the road the truck dies and I crank on it and cycle the key and it will not start. I walk to the house. This morning I walk back to the truck and is starts right up. I drive it to the house and it idles for about 30 mins until I shut it off. It kinda sounds like its temp related and its running rich when at operating temperature. I will check the coolant temp as mentioned earlier in the thread. BTW what is this?
  3. COOL! I have fished there with my bro in law. Even I caught a fish so you know its a decent place to try atleast. Btw truck is looking good. I like your 4x4 truck as well. When my Cj is running we need to hit some trails.
  4. Had a free afternoon Saturday so I took the opportunity to install new valve cover gasket, do the valve cover mod and relocate the vac reservoir. Now the climate controls work! I also changed the oil and switch to 15-40 Rotella. Its same oil I use in my 96 Ford PSD and I figured the flat tappet cam in the 4.0L would thank me for it. Moved the vac resi to just behind the battery. Valve cover mod to keep oil for spitting onto the new air filter. Valve cover cleaned up and in place.
  5. Been driving it for a week and a half. It has behaved itself for the most part. Top of the list of things to do right now are: new valve cover gasket, new rear vac harness, relocate vac reservoir to engine bay, rebuild rear axle and rebuild tcase. I also got both axles pulled and the parts truck IS for sale :)
  6. Oh DOHHH! haha Guess thats why I don't rember them as I never handled them because they are attached to the seat.
  7. I don't recall seeing the female ends. I think I just have the male. I will double check for you tho.
  8. I have pulled what I want and here is what is left besides a box or two of misc. MJ chassis. It has some rust in floor boards. Someone tried to patch passenger side. I don't see any other rust besides that. Ready for your choice of motor and axles. Comes with cherokee electric doors and drivers fender. Interior is stripped besides seat. No bed or tailgate. I Have title for it. Located in Pyatt, AR $250 I would do some trading let me know what you have. I could use a nice bumper or wheels. Thanks!
  9. Thank you very helpful for a new MJ co-owner.
  10. Thanks guys its a heck of alot better then it was for sure. I will keep pluggin away at the things it needs under the hood like vac lines and such and I bet it will get ironed out eventually. In the mean time I have been driving it around the farm and to the end of the dirt road and back. Our road is so bad right now our car will not make it in and out so we just park the car at the end of the road and drive the Mj or the SuperDooty out to the car. The MJ even has alittle trouble if you don't get a run at some of the hills. The next step in the project should help with traction tho! AMC20 with a traclok. :brows: Lastnight I got home at decent hour so I thought I would work on pulling the axles out of the parts truck before the ticks get real bad. I got the AMC20 out and started on upper control arms on the front. I probably should of put a warning in the title of my thread "WARNING picture heavy!"
  11. We drove the MJ to church today and back. Ran great. We were doing some work outside around the house and I drove it to the barn to get some dirt and when I went to start it to drive back to the house it didn't start right away I had to give it some gas. Drove it to the house shut it on and off sever more times doing things and it never missed a lick. We got done and decided to drive to sonic for ice cream. We drove it to town stopped and filled it up with gas went to sonic and came back home with no probs until we were pulling across the cattle guard into the yard and it died. I had to hold the throttle wide open to start it again. I Drove it 50 yards to the garage door and shut it off and it started again easily. Thats all I fooled with it today.
  12. Today was one of those days I should of just stayed out of the garage. My first thing on the list of things to do today was to change out the old TPS for the new one. Easy right, take like 30 mins max? No, try like half the day. I went to take the top screw out of the TPS and the head of it twisted off with little effort. I take the bottom screw out and pull the TPS off and and figure np I will get a pair of pliers and gently turn the screw on out of the TB....I just had it out no more then a day or two ago. It should come right out. Well it twist off even with the TB. So off comes the TB again and out come the drill bits and whatever I can find that must suffice as an easy out. I end up drilling it out almost all the way and use a tap to clean the rest of it out. I thought I would try the new threads out with the other old screw...don't want to screw up the threads on my new screw! HAHA DONE IT AGAIN! I really have no idea how it did but it did an I was being ever so careful. These things must have gotten hot and fatigued at some point. Well repeat the drilling and tapping and around noon I am adjusting the new TPS. IT seems like its working great. I drove it around to check the cattle and then drove it out the drive way and to the church and back no probs. Soooo it might be fixxed for now.
  13. Glad you got all that sorted and UPS came through.
  14. Ok I got kinda got over the red @$$ towards the comanche and I went down to work on it tonight. I got ready to test the TPS and see if it was properly adjusted and the TB looked pretty nasty and the edges of the butterfly had some build up so off it came for a cleaning. Before: After: The back of the TPS didnt look real good. Looks like it got hot and got alittle gooey. I figured it was not good but I got the TB back on and everything back together and was able to adjust the TPS within spec. The Reference voltage was 4.89 and I got the output to .83 on the button. Well see if it stays that way. It was dark out and a thunderstorm was taking place so I didn't back it out of the garage and take it for a drive but it did start right up. I shut it off and fired right up again and idled fine. True test will be a trip down the driveway/dirtroad. Then if it passes that test I will fully trust it after a weeks worth of driving it with no probs.....maybe. haha EDIT: I ordered a new TPS. I don't trust this one. Should be in tomorrow. More parts will have to come from the next pay check. haha
  15. I am going to test it and the TPS.
  16. thanks for the follow up.
  17. Tested the MAP sensor as described above. It seems to be functioning correctly and is well grounded. Also tested sensor grounds as described by cruiser in his DIY tips and tested good.
  18. Thanks for the help. I worked on building my skid plate for my Cj today so I didn't touch the MJ besides to haul the floor jack 1/2 mile down the road to put spare on my SuperDuty. I kept the RPM's up thinking it would help to keep it running and I guess it did. When i get a chance to do some checking on the MJ will let you know what I find.
  19. No I don't know how to check codes on these. Have a link for some info on that? It's pretty much random. I started it today. It idled forever yesterday so I thought I would try and drive it down to the barn. I drove 25 yards to the cattle guard and it dies. I crank on it for awhile hold the throttle wide open eventually it starts blowing balck and white smoke. I back it up and pull it back into the garage. I am thinking MAP sensor? Coolant Sensor? TPS? Something that would cause it to flood out all the sudden.
  20. Thought I would try and start the MJ lastnight. I cranked it over it fired but did not start. I held the gas pedal to the floor and after some coaxing it started with a cloud of white smoke. It idled for about 20 mins until i shut it off and restarted it with no probs. I checked fuel pressure with engine running and was rock steady at 30#. I noticed one of the bigger vac lines that comes from airbox back around the engine on the firewall to the vac canister was rotted away at the end and not connected to the canister. I guess I will order that vac line harness and replace it. Just go from there I guess!
  21. Thanks guys I need all the encouragement I can get. I admit I have been pretty sloppy on some of my diagnostics maybe I will get a evening or a Saturday to where I can slow down and give it a fair look.
  22. haha thanks. Ya the MJ is showing me some tough love. I decided to let it sit and think about whats its done for a few days. :fs1:
  23. Got her home on the haul of shame Friday. It set in front of the garage until Saturday afternoon. I was fixxing to go pickup the wife from work and I thought well I will crank on it for kicks. It turned over a few times and then it fired for a min and died. I cranked on it alittle more then it started but was running pretty rough. I popped the hood and heard a hissing noise. I had unhooked a vacline while i was tinkering with it in the grocery store parking lot. I also noticed the map sensor vac line was in two pieces. I had used a small piece of vac line to splice it together when I broke it changing injectors. I put the vac line back on the intake and the splice back together for the map sensor and it picked up and idled like a new one. I put a vac gauge on it and the needle was reading rock steady at 18#. I backed it up and then pulled it into the garage where I shut it off. I went and picked up the wife from work in my Superduty. When we got back home I started and shutoff the MJ several times. Fast forward to Monday morning. I start it up and let it warm up before I take off to work. It idles but then will bog down alittle and then pick back up. I take off down the drive way and make it our first pond, thats about a 1/4 mile from the house. It dies without warning, won't start back and I am walking back to the house. I get home yesterday afternoon put a new tighter fitting vac line over the broken map sensor line just to be safe and it won't start. I tow it back to the house where it is now sitting in the garage. If i get it to start again I am going to check the fuel pressure with a gauge and see if that tells me anything.
