  1. Right. OE open replacements used to have the bung for the temp sensor, but not much any more. My old leaking radiator...
  2. Still buttoning up some of the wiring in the engine compartment and I keep going back to this. This is before I changed out the WJ booster and M/C, but the brake lines are the same. OK, but the lines stick out far enough the washer reservoir won't fit. So after twisting and bending, them I made it even worse (no pics of that). I made a run to the pull-a-part and did some comparisons, and this is what I came up with. '00 XJ proportioning valve, XJ proportioning valve lines, the XJ left front hard line and another ZJ proportioning valve. The hard lines for the rear and RF can be re-bent to reach the XJ valve, then simply replace the LF line. No double or bubble flares, no custom lines and no adapters. After the install I then pulled the plunger and spring from the XJ valve... ...and replaced them with the ZJ stuff. This pic shows the difference between the two. Using the parts I listed takes a lot of the headaches out of the dual diaphragm booster upgrade for the Renix. BTW Disregard the part about the ZJ valve if you are running rear drums.
  3. I got the new radiator installed, but with the new radiator didn't have the mounting hole for the factory temp sensor like the old one. Locally no one carries an all metal radiator that has this mounting hole. The mounting hole is located... There are a number of topics online about this, most recommend using a late model t-stat housing and a sending unit from an early 80's vette. The sensor set points are close, but not exactly right. http://comancheclub....erature-sensor/ I wanted to be able to control the temp the fan came on, but i didn't want to run it off a toggle. A couple of weeks ago I was looking through the Summit Catalog and found this gauge... everything I was looking for. Adjustable high and low set points etc. except $188.28 shipped was out of price range. Ebay to the rescue... Slightly used and $85 shipped. I picked up an Auto Meter Cherokee dual gauge pod... and a 3692 voltmeter. Mounted in the pod... Just a few more wires to run... Jeff
  4. The Pull a Part here in Winston Salem had a white '87 still had the bed on it. Looked like it sat somewhere for years. No rust. The inside paint even looked good, just minor damage under the left rear tail light. I robbed the tailgate off it about a week and a half ago.
  5. Thanks, the switches came from OTRATTW with some very minor filing they pop into the factory holes. www.otrattw.com/proddetail.php?prod=V8D1A60B-ANCAT-100
  6. Usual setbacks. Fairly new OE style radiator has a sprung leak. The only old part in the cooling system. My fault for being a tight a** and not replacing it... New two row all metal radiator from a local parts house, I'll put in tomorrow before work...
  7. Thanks I looked through my receipts, and I can't find anything on it. I remember found it on one of those tuner sites with the under car neon lights and crap, just can't think of the name of it. Sorry.
  8. Started back in on the MJ Monday. Been finishing up under the hood, and taking note of other stuff to finish up. Took off this morning to the PullaPart mostly for a washer bottle, but ended up with a few other goodies. Near mint rear bumper. $40... After a quick clean... and nice off white tailgate with just a few small dings in it. $37...
  9. I used #0000 steel wool on the A/C line fittings. The hot water will always be in the cab, just like the 97+ XJs.
  10. I found a lot of the same tape in the engine bay harness. Tacky, but it's factory. :dunno: Trucks looking good.
  11. Found a small project I could manage. My tail lights are intact but have scratches and UV damage (too far gone for Meguiar's). Decided I'd try clear coating them. I decided I'd start with the left side which was the worse of the 2. Cleaned and wet sanded the light starting with 400 grit, then 600, to 800 and finally 1000. Taped out the lens' for some black... Used Kyrlon Fusion Satin Black and Rustoleum Gloss Clear. Black... Clear... Not perfect, but better than before...
  12. thanks everything did go well, just a couple of more weeks and i'll be back on it.
  13. Thanks guys. My surgery is set for Tues the 28th and I got tired of sitting around. After a slow start I got flurry (for me) of small items done yesterday. Tied up the wiring harness, replaced the broken map sensor plug, and tied up the last of the electrical connections... Installed the battery leads I fabbed up with Napa military spec terminals and welding cable... I cannibalized the old vacuum harness and a partial harness from an HO and ran most of the vacuum lines. Still need to run the line to the vacuum ball on the bumper... Tucked the EGR solenoid/relay in the lower front left corner and fabbed some new vacuum hard lines... Still need the one vacuum line, a line for the vapor canister and coolant jug and she's done. I also reconnected the speedo at the T-case and reconnected the parking brake cables under the bed. I started setting the length on the trac bar, but had to quit. Be back soon. Jeff
  14. I wish I had some updates, but unfortunately the MJ is on the back burner for now. I've had some nagging health problems since last fall that have finally caught up with me. I was diagnosed with with severe aortic stenosis, which is a complication from a congenital heart valve defect. The first of my two procedures is scheduled for June 28th. I really don't like laying my personal life out on the internet, but I've had a quite a few people following my build and I wanted all of them to know I hadn't abandoned my build. It's just on a temporary hold, and Lord willing I'll resume the build later this summer after my recovery. I would like to say thanks to everyone who's followed my build and for all the supportive comments. I love the Jeep community. Peace, Jeff
  15. Thanks and I'd be glad to help out, but there are a lot more knowledgeable members on here than me. There's a lot of info on here, if you're having a problem do a search. That's how I answered 90% of my questions.
  16. I got the radio back in tonight and tied up a few loose wires. Don't think I ever posted this, but I really didn't like the green back light in the factory clock. Especially after swapping in the LED dash lights, so this is what a simple red SMD LED will do when installed in the factory clock. No more green.
  17. especially the large unknown stain in front of seat. can't be as bad as my unknown stain :rotf: oh damn....
  18. especially the large unknown stain in front of seat.
  19. A little recap. Before... Now...
  20. Seat. Shot of the extinguisher with the bench seat folded forward. Straight shot to it. I know, everybody ditches the bench for buckets, but I like the bench. Few shots installed
  21. Been finishing up a few interior details. Couldn't resist the upgrade bug and picked up one of these powered subs...SOUND ORDNANCE B-8PT...off Ebay with a missing remote for $74 shipped. Installed on the back panel... It works great, but I did have to slightly modify the case to get it to mount to the panel. I also added a fire extinguisher.. I don't really like the exposed wires, but there're gonna be behind the bench...
  22. Finally got a chance to get back to the MJ, just finished a 4 week run at work with only 3 days off and I had a bunch of other crap piled up to do. I've finally put the worrisome headliner to rest. I dropped off the gray one I got from the Pull a Part at the upholstery shop... and he recovered it for me in black. Run me about $50. I could have saved a little money and did it myself, but I'm bought all in on this headliner mess. Been a real PITA. I had picked up several sets of visors and decided to use the two best left-hand ones so not to have a vanity mirror. I found this product through Google and watched their demo video and I decided I'd try to dye them :fs1: Don't recommend, sent them to the upholsterer too. I learned a hard and expensive lesson here...I chucked my backer and visors when I gutted the interior and I have paid for it. Trust me kids if yours are usable take care of them. Countless hours and too many dollars later here both pieces are finally installed...
  23. I appreciate it. I'm running out of steam on this, all my additions have drug this out a lot longer than I wanted. Shooting to have it drivable by mid April.
  24. Hair dryer and WD40.
  25. That is funny, we ended up finding ours in Lynchburg Va., though. '93 with 90k. I'll let you know about dinner.
