89eliminator's 92 Eliminator
JeffK replied to 89eliminator's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I can't get over this truck, great find. -
Thanks, I think the guy did a good job on it. I plan on this one being around a while and decided to splurge on it.

I'd planned on using my ARB from my '00 XJ, and change out the front sheet metal. The more I look at it the better I like the older sheet metal and I really didn't want to drag that 150 lb+ bumper around any more. I bought the bumper and installed it on my XJ, and less than 2 weeks later a guy in an '07 Nissan Frontier, pulled directly out in front of me: I figured the bumper was toast. His damage: My damage ;) : Those aren't dents, they're paint scuffs. That was it. No tweaks, bends or anything. Just the scuffs. Long story short, I bought the bumper for $425, his insurance company paid me $380 to have it repainted (cost $7) and I resold it for $400. I like the protection and the looks of it, but it pushes the front end down a good 2" and it's not something I really need or want on a DD/Tow truck.

My old bench didn't have headrests either, and I definitely wanted head rests. I stumbled on this one on Craigslist. I haven't decided on the flooring yet, but I'm leaning toward carpet. The seat recovered and the foam build up for the bottom was $375. More than I was really planning to spend, but I got an offer for my ARB bumper and figured what the hell. :brows:

Picked up the seat today. Just need to clean up the seat rails and dye the hinge covers. I went with black vinyl and black cloth, I didn't care much for the factory pattern so I had him go a little different. I like it:

Got the same tires on the wife's XJ, good choice.

Thanks, you too. Great info in your build thread, I would have liked to scored your old bench seat, if you were a little closer.
-
let me know which one you're looking at, and PM me your postal code.

It's black and some gray.

I remounted both my buckets and my bench seat and I decided that I liked the bench. The only problem was mines and '88 and has no head rests. I saw a few of the rear collision pics and didn't really care for the thought of my old Mellon going through the slider glass. :ack: , but Craigslist to the rescue... Seriously nice seat, no rips, no tears not worn to one side, just a little grungy and $50. This is my current interior, all black, with the exception on the upperdash and the tops of the door panels which are that medium gray that jeep used so much. I'm having the seat recovered and can't decide what color/materials to use. The funky pattern currently in the cloth portion of the seat will be replaced with plain 3" vertical pleats:

The upper portion of the dash came out of a '91, it's the same color as the Limited. It's the medium gray color that's in most of them (the same as the top of the door panels), and the same as the horn button in my avatar. The lower portion of the dash in the Limited was all hacked up so I used the '96 panel I had after I hit it with some Fusion Satin Black. Something I didn't realize at first is the '96's don't have that little crotch vent (the one below the steering column) in them :???: guess they finally realized how useless they were. The carpet, headliner, visors and remaining plastics will black. I dropped the seat off and the guy told me he wouldn't be able to start on it till this coming Monday. Since dropping it off I've called back and changed the colors twice the first time was all vinyl Black and the medium gray with the medium gray in the middle sections with 3" horizontal pleats. Then I changed it to black vinyl with pleated black cloth in the center sections. I called today and the guy said had till 12 tomorrow to make up my mind cause that's when he's gonna start cutting the materials. :hmm: Can't make up my mind...

Picked this seat up off Craigslist last week for $50. Drove down to Salisbury to get it. It's not a grungy as the pictures show. Pretty decent shape. No rips, no tears and the previous owners weighed less than 300lbs. Dropped it off at the upholstery shop Monday:  Jeff

Thanks, I've finally wrapped everything up under the dash and I've got all the lights working. Pretty much finished reassembling the dash, door panels etc. today. The interior colors I'm coping from an '89 XJ Limited that I robbed the door panels out of. That Limited was the only one I've seen like it: The power windows work good so far, and it's nice not to jiggle fuses to make stuff work anymore:

Anybody know what this wire is for?
JeffK replied to JeffK's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Excellent, thanks for the help... -
Sure, I'll bring the beer you get the pizza. With the seats and the steering column out of the way it wasn't nearly as bad as I had thought it would be. With a little trial and error I decided to solder the wires directly to the terminal instead of splicing all 25+ connections. Kinda like this: Laid the boxes out side by side and did one wire at a time.

BFG AT's. I've had them on every 4X4 I've owned at some point. Of course, I'm a little biased my first job turning wrenches was at a company owned BFG store in the 80's. The quality has come a long way since then, somewhat so when they were bought out by Uniroyal, but more so when Michelin bought out the two of them in the mid 90's.

The wires are right above where the drivers side interior light mounts. Image Not Found  Jeff

I've spent most of the past two days swapping out my fuse box. A couple of weeks ago I pulled a pretty nice fuse box out of an '89 XJ auto. One wire at a time and resoldering the the wire to the terminal. Pretty tedious. Finished up late yesterday: Reinstalled it today PITA to do by yourself. The red wire is factory (from the XJ) and is connected to a 30 amp circuit breaker that would normally supply the power seats and door locks, but I hooked my power windows to it: With the power windows connected to this circuit it allows the windows to be rolled up or down without the key. I did this intentionally, I read a post about it on NAXJA and seemed like a neat idea. We don't have small children or any near us, but if that changes it's a simple one wire swap. Here's a picture from a few minutes ago we got a pretty good shower late to day and no far no water leaks: I also reinstalled my 'new' steering column. This on has tilt and I'm liking it. I also took a little time to time up all those unused connectors that were hanging down and the only thing hanging down now is the module for the intermittent wipers, which mounts on the lower dash panel: Don't look like a whole lot of progress. but the list of stuff that didn't work prior to the fuse box install included horn, interior lights, dash lights, tail lights, etc. All of this now works. I'm pretty pleased... :rotfl2:  :rotfl2:   Jeff

Thanks.

did you ask the guy if he'd sell the whole thing? windshield says 278k, so seems like it'd be perfect to get the whole thing and swap a new motor in. :brows: I asked if he thought about selling it and he said 'it'll make more money sitting where it's at'.

Then of course there were the others, this one had column shift, but someone had busted it up to get the key cylinder out: This one gave up a couple of small interior pieces: then there's:  Jeff

Last week I went to a different pull a part across town, and they had a few MJ's. This one I didn't understand. I was told the head gasket was blown and the guy drove to the yard. It's a 4.0/auto and the body was about 90% straight. There are a few accessory miscues (like the grab handles :shake: , but it has sound floor boards, a decent and complete gray interior, good tail lights and a repairable tail gate. Shame.
