  1. I guess I need to read up more on that conversion. I have to be sure I don't lose any head room though. I'm kind of tall and am pretty happy with the bench height. Good on the clutch and the head...

    Jeep Wave?

When I drove TJs I would always give and receive a little wave from other TJ & YJ owners. Out of habit I did it today to another MJ and they looked at me like I had 2 heads. Is that reserved strictly for the Wrangler crowd or was the other driver out of the loop?
  3. :agree: I've got a crack forming in my closed system pressure bottle. Something is going to have to be done soon but the radiator appears to be in good shape for now. What do you all think: try to find a pressure bottle in good shape or do the conversion to an open system?
  4. If that doesn't help, there is a manche at pull a part here that has a 2.5 in it. I could try to grab the parts for you.
  5. I bought a tailgate that was off of the truck and didn't think to ask about the bolts, spacers, hinge cups for the truck side. Mine has none of that installed. Does anyone have part or all of them for sale? Please help, I'm rolling around with a tailgate in the bed that is useless right now. Cheers.
  6. The gauge does it's full sweep check on start up as it should. I'll give this a try though.
  7. I have considered that. But the thicker colder oil should still change pressure some based on engine revs. When cold, the gauge is frozen solid at just above 40, when hot it fluctuated between just above 20 to just below 40. I am planning to find a mechanical gauge to nail down the gauge accuracy but it looks and feels like it just isn't working at all until it's warm. Then again, it might be working perfectly and I'm just expecting it to work differently.
  8. I'm glad I read this before switching out to the openable wing windows. Assuming I installed doors from a 97+ Cherokee on my 89 MJ, how would I get the power windows and door locks to work? Just supply power and I'm good or is it a bit more complicated?
  9. How did you mount the 6x9 in the door? I'm going to be installing some form of radio and speakers before long.
  10. Not to thread jack, but do the HVAC controls even have lights on an 89 MJ? My dash is fine but there is just darkness from the middle. Is that the way they were built or do I have another thing to add to my list of needed repairs?
  11. Sender was brand new. The shop didn't have a mechanical gauge I could borrow.
  12. When I got my MJ it already had the full gauge dash cluster switched in but the previous owner hadn't bothered changing the senders. I installed the proper oil pressure sender the other day, took a test drive, got appropriate looking pressures and called it a night. The next morning the I take off to work and the gauge just sits right above 40 and doesn't move. BUT... when I get off the interstate near work the gauge is working properly again. I've watched it for the last few days and it's only working properly when it's warmed up. Any ideas? Specs of my MJ in the signature.
  13. For Posterity: Got the issue fixed today. It was the U-joints. Specifically the rear u-joint was missing all of the needle bearings on one end. I went ahead and replaced both ends while I had the shaft out. Problem solved! Thanks for the input.
  14. So it was originally bucket seats? I'm looking at options to replace my bench. Not sure this would work.
  15. 4.0L motor. I'm not sure which of the 5 spds I have. I'll figure that out tomorrow. 2WD so no transfer case (yet). Thanks for the info.
  16. I'm putting new u-joints in the mache tomorrow. While I'm spending the day turning wrenches I plan to change the oil, diff fluid and possibly the tranny fluid. I've read several posts about the weight for oil and plan to go with 5w30 and a good filter. What do you all suggest (and what doe OEM say) for the trans and diff?
  17. I'm still getting familiarized with my MJ (just got it this week) but the first (major?) thing that I think I need to fix is this vibration/rumble/shuddering. When I'm driving above 50mph and let off of the gas or shift into neutral to coast there is a significant vibration that begins. It is a low frequency vibration that I can feel in the seat, wheel and see it vibrating an ink pen in the tray under the glove box. I've done some reading on the forums but most of the time the description matches but the solution has to do with binding caused by a lift. My MJ is factory height with 30's on stock rims, so that's not the problem. I'm planning to throw some new U-Joints in it and see if that helps out any. Does anyone else have any experience with this type of thing? 1989 MJ 4.0L 5spd long bed
  18. It wouldn't be a jeep if it didn't draw a little blood from time to time. I'll spend the weekend working on it may be PMing you about that assembly. *edited for spelling
  19. Anyone have a pic of the non gauge sender unit? I'm thinking that is what is installed but I'd like to be sure. I had the same problem with the oil pressure sender. I've already fixed that though.
  20. I bought my MJ a few days ago (always been driving TJ's) and was told at the start that the parking brake cables were cut. Did a little inspection and they are cut, but the reason for being cut is that the release handle is broken off and the pedal is stuck on the floor. Has anyone replaced a release handle before? Any clues on releasing the thing so I can start installing replacement cables? I'm planning to just replace all three to be safe. I appreciate any help you all can offer.
  21. I bought my MJ with BF Goodrich All-Terrain 30's on it. I haven't had any rubbing issues. Good info on the speedo conversion link. I knew it felt like I was going faster than it was reading but didn't know what the factory tire size was.
  22. Bought my MJ with just a net for a tailgate. It's light blue but the tailgate doesn't have to be the same color. I'm willing to drive a bit and pay a fair price for the condition. Post a reply or PM me. Cheers. Edit: Found one in decent shape (some dents and scratches but no rust) at pull-a-part this morning.
