  1. Hey Jake- Thanks. I'll try to crimp the cable clip a little today and see what happens. If I break it, I'll either have to find another one, or pay you for your whole cable (with the clip still attached, I assume). The funny thing about getting the loop around the hot/cold lever control is that the cable wants to turn vertical as you slide it back and forth -- leading to a possible slip-off. Once I get it secured at the other end, I guess this won't be a problem any longer. What a PITA! Thanks- Tom
  2. oh man, I went to swap out the heater core, broke the air box, ended up replacing that, the evaporator, blower motor, and core! Anyway, got the assembly back in, now having trouble with the cable. It got slightly kinked, and was moving with a lot of effort, and then it came disconnected from the back of the HVAC controls. 2 questions: how does the cable connect to the back of the HVAC controls? Does it just loop over the hook, and that's it? Seems likely to pop back off again. 2nd question: at the other end of the cable, how does the clip go on the cable tightly? I can't get it tight enough, the cable is sliding through it. Do I need to crimp it tighter? Do I need a new pinch nut(?) that hold the clip to the heater door lever? Do I just need a new clip, after taking it on and off a few times? Thanks! Tom :headpop:
  3. Akula-PM'ed you! $500 thanks but I saw them for $20-something new on rockauto. I have a good wheel, just got a seized up motor. Tom
  4. Heater core and blower motor all died at the same time! Very convenient. I beat this box up bad getting it out, I need another one. Working blower motor would be good, too! Let me know how much/where. Thanks Tom
  5. squared away, sorry about that guys.
  6. That's funny (not really), I have the same problem. I had my 2.5 professionally rebuilt and assembled it. Got it back and the valve stem seals were improperly installed, so I removed the head, and the machine shop fixed it. I put it back on. I used the FSM in putting the new Felpro head gasket and head on. Torqued, I believe to 85 (except #8 at 80). Leaking back corner - driver's side. Took it to a mechanic, and he said there was an update -- for the composite gaskets -- that said 115 ft/lbs (105 for #8), so he re-torqued them. He went to pressure test it, and my heater core exploded! LOL - had a new one anyway. So I'm holding my breath that the block or head aren't cracked, and that the builder decked the head properly, etc. Sucks. Keep me posted! Tom
  7. Rob, I realize it looks like it comes out of nowhere. I've had this beef with him for a couple of months. It's off my chest now, and I'm going to let it go. I've been around a long time, and NEVER flamed anyone, I go all the way back to the Yahoo group. Pub is a reasonable place for this, and let's just consider it a "bad seller" thread.
  8. Yeah, I have no idea who 88pioneer is. I know what happened that day, I realized I was taking a chance when you said you might not be home, and I wasn't that upset about it, ask Paul. What I don't understand is that I called and texted AFTER THAT, and you're 21 years old, I'm in my 30s, I know you guys are glued to those phones. You didn't respond once, and when I finally sent a frustrated email 3 days later, you tell me to GFY.
  9. Why don't you just explain why you told me that parts were at your uncle's house that he couldn't find, then never called me back when I wanted to meet up again? If you just were up-front in the first place about the parts, instead of playing games, you would never have made an enemy of me. Even your uncle couldn't understand why you would give me his address, and not have the parts there. If you can't understand why that would piss someone off, then you don't have a clue. Glad you don't need the money -- I couldn't tell.
  10. I don't even know who 88 pioneer is, what are you talking about? If you're going to air it out here, Kyle, why don't you tell the truth? I had a deal with this jackass to come buy seats, doors, and a console. He gave me his address, and we tried to work out a time to come get it for a week. I was driving up north, and his place was an hour out of my way, I asked if I could come by. He said he might not make it back, he was doing something. I nearly get there, and he texts to say he won't be back but someone might be there and the parts were in the basement. So I get there, and the parts truck is there -- doors off, console and seats out, covered in a tarp. His uncle, I guess, comes out and tries to help out, looks through the basement for the parts, tries to call jackass, and so do I, but he doesn't answer, so I leave. I spend the next 3 days calling and texting, with no response, because I had to pass back through, figured I'd give it another shot. Finally I get a response telling me to "go f-ck myself," as if he had any reason to be pissed off at me. I had the cash in hand, and he's doing me a favor. I should have known better than to deal with this clown in the first place. I've done business with many Jeepers over the years, and a couple on this board, and I've never dealt with someone like this before. No one should deal with this guy whatsoever, in any regard. Sad thing is, if he were a decent guy, he's always looking for help, and parts, and I certainly would have helped him out. This is what Jeepers do. Now I'm "ghey?" You got two rotbuckets; your uncle said compared to your trucks, mine was "mint." LOL he did give you fair warning that he may not be there, and his uncle probably doesn't have a clue what he's looking for. *shrug* I guess you have a right to be upset over him telling you to f*k off...but, you should probably concede the point that just cause he's into jeeps doesn't mean the person that's there is smart enough to know where things are. I HATE people who want to act on their time frame, not mine. if I can be there at a time that's convenient for them to stop by, I will...otherwise, they'd better be willing to make their schedule meet mine. I don't care what you hate, to be honest, since you've already figured I need to "stop taking it in the butt." I hate when people butt in when they don't know what is going on. I wasn't upset that he couldn't make it, but why say the parts are there if you're not home? Truth is, they weren't there. I left and didn't give his uncle a hard time. I just wanted to reschedule and he never called back, so clearly he didn't have any respect for MY time. I wasn't acting on MY schedule, I was coming to him and trying to work out the deal. I didn't know if he wouldn't be there until I was about 20 minutes from the house. Again, I've done business with people here, and you won't find anyone who said I acted like a jerk or inconvenienced them. 88pioneer must have had some problem with him, too, since Kyle figures he's my "buddy." So, thanks for your 2 cents, but .... butt out.

  12. Is that the rust-free one with all the rust under the carpet? :jump:
  13. You don't need to remove the LCA's, either, you can get them out, and I got 3" coils in without removing the LCA's.
  14. It all makes sense now. You even look like a retard. I didn't see the doors in that scrap pile.
  15. nm posted on wrong thread! :wall:
  16. Thanks for the replies. I've been driving it for a year and a half without this noise, so I don't think the header sealing up to the head is the problem. The exhaust gasket was semi-metallic and nice and thick, and I put a new one on when I had to take the head off. The loctite pretty much throws out any loosening up, but maybe I'll try to give them a little bit of a turn, in order. Just don't wanna snap them! Assuming they didn't loosen up, the gasket SHOULD be ok, right? It just SOUNDS like exhaust to me. Is it helpful to have someone plug the exhaust pipes and feel around in there when the engine is cool? Thx Tom :ack:
  17. Getting disgusted with my MJ. Mostly venting. I'm trying to get all the mechanical bugs done before getting into the floors, then paint. But man, one thing after another. Been using her quite a bit lately. When I had the engine rebuilt last summer, the builder screwed up installing the valve stem seals. I pulled the head off, after just installing the whole thing, and he fixed it. I reinstalled, new intake/exhaust manifold gasket, torqued down the Clifford header, and used (red) Loctite on the threads. Well, recently a tapping started, and it sounds an awful lot like an exhaust leak. The guy who installed my SS system took a look on the lift, and said it looked fine, he didn't hear any exhaust leak "unless it's coming from up top." He didn't look up top. I did, and I found some air coming from the EGR tube. When I installed the header, the EGR tube no longer fit, and my brother cut/fabbed/welded it to make it work. So I took some Quiksteel and spread it over the welds, sealed it right up. Only problem is, the noise is still happening. It's so tight in there, and gets so hot so fast, I can't feel around real well for a manifold leak. It makes no tapping at idle, or even while revving the engine, only while driving. Maybe it's not an exhaust leak - but then what is it? If I have to pull that manifold again, I'm going to be sick, and I'm sure the red Loctite is going to cause problems....any ideas? Someone tell me I shouldn't drive the truck into a bridge abuttment! LOL Tom

    WTB Sway bar QD

I got some, buddy, just let me know. You're gonna need longer shocks, too, guy. :rotf:
  19. PM'ed you - I can deliver you a D35 from an MJ with 4.10.
  20. I had all caps on my 87 Laredo. Wanna buy them?
  21. All very good stuff. Starting with shocks and will re-assess at that point! I will come back and keep everyone posted. Thanks, everyone, for the $0.02. Tom
  22. OK! Thank you. So a reasonable plan would be: get some good shocks ....see how it goes if still too stiff, get coils with a lower spring rate ....see how it goes if still too stiff, try adjustable LCA's. That seems reasonable, and I don't open a can of worms that I don't want to, or blow all kinds of money for minimal or no improvement....I'll start shopping for some Bilsteins! Tom
  23. Pete, I was just coming around to that way of thinking. So at the 3" of lift I have now, I could get longer LCA's, skip the drop brackets, and get some new shocks, and see how she rides. I'm an idiot with this geometry stuff in the front end - - are there a certain length of LCA's I should get for 3" coils, or are adjustables the way to go? Any brands I should be looking at? I already did do the longer brake lines! :clapping: Thanks- Tom
