  1. One thing you will have to change is that an xj brake light is on a different bulb than turn signals. JCWhitney has a part made to convert the xj style lights to the 3 wire style the mj has for trailers but it should work or do what I did and change one of the bulbs to be a brake only by running an additional wire oto the lights from the harness. And depending on the year the stop lamp switch will be different My 86 mj Had a vacuum tube that ran to the switch while the 94 XJ had just a electrical switch. It will not fit right on the brake pedal. I had to rig mine using the xj stop lamp switch holder. Also the heat and ac has some different connectionson newer xj so try and get the same year xj harness if you can it will be easier. Other than that it should be a ok.
  2. Casey it was a dana 35 out of a 95 zj. The dana 35 on your MJ has a different flange pattern. It is just off a little but you will have to redrill to match the pattern of your axle. Other than that it is easy to do. Check out this link it will show you how its done but that guy took his parts to a machine shop. I just drilled out myself with a drill press.http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/Disc_brakes/index.html
  3. I used MJ brake lines and a clamp but I used the springs from zj. I got 5.5" on the SOA.
  4. I t was easy. Just Get ZJ disc brakes, TJ dana 44 axle retainer plates, redrill calipers retainer plates and backing plates to match flange pattern of you axle. Unless you have a C-clip axle then it should be a direct bolt in. If your have any questions let me know.
  5. Thats what I was afraid of. No I just tourqed it becouse I didnt have nothing to go by since the yoke was gone when I got it.. The pinion seal is leaking too so I'll probly just install new gears with install kit. I just won't be able to drive it for a while. I planning on 456 gears just don't know if Ill use thick gears and keep the tracloc or get a locker.
  6. I installed a dana44 in my mj. I got it from the junkyard and it was missing the pinion yoke. I order 1 and installed it. put in fresh gear oil. It has a tracloc. It makes a roaring noise when I drive it. Sounds like worn mud tires from inside the truck. Anyone know whats causing it.
  7. 8.8 are 1.5" more narrow. thats only 3/4" each side if you run aftermarket wheels you should be ok. I live in KIngs mtn NC just across SC border on I85 you can get 8.8 with 4.10 and tracloc for 200-250 around here.
  8. My brake lights quit working so I tried replacing the stop lamp switch. That did not help. What else could be the problem? No power going to light no matter if the switch is in or out. Thanks for any help in advance.
  9. No I could not drive it every day I have a 2003 ram2500. Also I'm going to change the interior color to grey. How about those maroon buckets.
  10. xj dash and console
  11. Had to move crossmember back
  12. I used the axle retainer plate for a tj with dana44. I got them from jeep dealer for $4.00 a piece. You will have to cut off the bearings to use the new retainer plate. You do not need the spacer becouse the new retainer has it built in. Hope this helps. redrill with the same pattern that the caliper brackets and backing plates uses. I used a drill press with a 3\8 bit.
  13. No I didnt have to cut firewall. Mine was identical to the 94 xj the engine came from. I have heard that depending on how early in the year the mj was made has some thing to do with how the firewall was made. I had to drill all the spot welds out for the header panel and cut some of the area under the head lights. Move the radiator support from the xj to the mj. It is not hard to do as long as the donor vehicle has the parts on it. I had to drill and tap new holes for the trans crossmember, shorten drive shaft 5". I used the xj dash and wiring harness and steering wheel. It had the full gauge cluster and tilt. The only wiring I used from the mj was to the tail lamps. I had to run an extra wire for the brake lamps becouse the xj uses different bulb for turn and stop so I cut the top light wire and made it a brake light. If anyone wants anymore info let me know.
  14. just a zj rear axle with disc brakes and a tj dana44 axle retainer plate or have a spacer custom made. Here is a link to see how its done.http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavist ... index.html and here is 1 for a tj its the same other than you have to drill the old pattern in brackets. Hope that helps.http://www.stu-offroad.com/suspension/d44brake/bc-1.htm
  15. It has a little on the floor boards on both sides and a couple spots on the bed and tailgate but I'm planning on fixing that real soon. Thanks for checking it out. Ill take some pics of the 4.0 and post soon.
  16. It took me abount two months during last winter. The most important thing was to have a complete running xj and a factory sevice manual. It was the first engine I ever installed. here is a pic of the old 2.5 before i removed it.
  17. axle for the mj
  18. it worked :D
  19. just trying to post a pic
  20. I've almost completed my zj disc brake conversion in a 87 mj d44. It is pretty easy and I'll bet alot cheaper than teraflex kit. You just have to redrill the parts to the different pattern and machine out a little in the center of the brackets. And you will need an axle retainer plate from a dana 44 tj or a custom spacer to get the bearing preload. Not sure about a dana 35 but it should be the same as long as its a non c clip. If it a c clip axle it should be a direct bolt in but I'm not sure about that. I got my complete zj d35 with disc brakes for 100 bucks. After putting new pads rotors and and parking shoes I'll estimate 200 bucks for conversion.http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavist ... index.html This link should help. I looked up a picture of the tera flex kit and it looks identicle to zj rear disc brakes for $499
