  1. Thanks for the info DC. thats what I was looking for. someone that has done it.
  2. From what pic's I can see the laefs are just on the lca mounts in the rear of the spring and a hanger up at the front with the fram extended to hold them. sqr tubing used as a cross member from side to side. I am going to see if I can did up any more info. I Like the idea of the leafs up front
  3. So I take it no here has done this or has any info on it?
  4. Hi all I was just on a site looking at pics of comanche's and a lot of people have changed the front to leaf springs. it is just a site to post pics so I thought I would ask here. would this be a good mod for lift? what disadantages and what advantages would it give? all coments welcome. the reason I ask is I have 2 Mjs and well if I can take the springs out of the back of one to geit lift in the front I may make a trail only rig out of one of them. what elts would I use up front for springs. does anyone have good pic's of this being done? Thanks and lets start talking
  5. Yes ofer 800 and go from their. its worth it.
  6. Well do not know what the gears are yet but I did save the thing from getting crushed. it will be in the drive way in a day or two. 90 with a d44, and auto on the column, bench seat burgundy and black outside. long box. frame does not look to bad, springs are good, engine runs. not sure what may happen to this one.
  7. well I have not done this yet but the one on the mj works realy well so when i change the rear end to the xj I may just change the front if the gear ratio is different anyway. IF not then I will swap just the actuator over and see if it works on the Xj front end.
  8. Thanks guys I knew that it was something like that FX, yeah I remeber about the bottome to the top when undoing the bolts but that was a good reminder. I hope to have tomorrow off so I can get at this stuff. I have to pull the engine out of the mj so I can get it ready to put in the xj too. To much to do and no time to do it.
  9. the tags are their but can not read. I even took a paint stick and tried that trick but no luck. I remeber something about counting the teeth and divid or multiply by the axle teeth to find ratio but can't remeber what it was. lol The older I get the more I forget the things people never Knew..... lol lol lol :dunno:
  10. I did find this but not all that detaled http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks. ... okee-5.htm Does not show anything for MJ's that I could find but did not have much time. Thanks for the help guys. I will have to just go to the yard and take the cover off and find out what is inside if he will let me. Found this its not bad http://www.jeep-comanche.com/index.asp
  11. Just woundering if anyone knows of web sites that I can get specs off of for MJ's and Xj's with the ser#? I was going to buy a mj yesterday and was a day late the local junker picked it up for a $100. I saw the truck at the junk yard. not in bad shape, it has a d44 in the back and some rust on the box but all and all in good shape. :fs1:  :headpop:  the owner has all ready started to take it apart. I am working for the next few days and was hoping I can run the ser# and find out what gears are in it before it is totaly striped and scaterd all over his yard and then crushed. I also found a 2wd at another yard that is hafe striped and would like to see what it has as the place was closed but I could call and get the ser# and run it. I have bought an Eliminator black 91 4wd that needs a rocker it is a short box and was a one owner. I would like to find info on this as well. Thanks for any help.
  12. I changed the valvecover gasket about 2 months back and just had to snug the bolts up today as the are all loose on the xj. but hay the last one I owned it was just something I did once a month like everything elts. cheak oil, tires, lube joints, tighten valvecover, wash ( maybe) lube door handels, ect, ect, ect............
  13. Thanks Pete thats what I thought. I have never hear of that mod up here and well like I said its been a few years sence I have been into jeep. I am going to do that today and let you know how I make out.
  14. Thanks. I think I understand from all that I should remove the CAD and shim the linkage over. but this will make it fulltime 4wd right, or just always turn the front axle? 2 and 4wd from tansfercase still work? do I have to block off the vaccum lines. and when you remove the Cad and shim or change the pin on it so it is ingaged do I move axel over then reinstall????? I would have to right? :dunno:
  15. Ok the transfercase does work and the front driveshaft does ingage and dis ingage but the rightside axle does not on my 91XJ. I know it has something to do with the vacume. what can I cheak as it has sliped my mind after a few years of not being around jeeps. Thanks for the help.
  16. 1) I have a adictive pesonality :help: 2) I drink Crown Roayl and Alpine  3) I have owned over 50 jeeps ( all years of xj's and mj's also fullsized ) 4) I get  when I have to deal with stupid people  5) I was in the army and love North Amarica :Canadaflag: :USAflag:
  17. Time to find a d44
  18. I had this problem on different XJ's one time it was the key ignition another time it was the relay under the hood on the right had side for the ignition.( or pasinger side) the wires had been wet so many times that they just would ark and would not shut off. had to replace the hole box and leads to solve problem. something to look at. good luck
  19. Nice findand welcome to the addiction. I hope when I bring home the 91 that I picked up for that price that the engine is not bad. If you are going to change the engine to 4.0l you need all the wire's to go with it. myself I always said, Self if you have to change from a 4cyl to a 6cyl just put in a chev 350 or a rustang 5.0l. have to change the wire's anyway. I had a 454 in a XJ and it was not that hard to do. my buddie put a 350 with a blower in a yj and no changed it for a 454. actualy gets better milage then the 6cyl did. just my 2 cents
  20. thanks and yeah That was a sunny day around here.
