  1. what two big words? :rotf: i was wondering why when i have fords come in with the 4.0 it looked completely different from the 4.0 in cherokees, i just couldn't seem to tell, but now i know, Redwolf
  2. just always what i've been told, always read, etc Redwolf
  3. i've always loved the 4.0s even though it's a ford engine, i try to stray away from GM, i never have any luck with GM anything, when i bought the MJ i didn't know it had a GM engine, i thought all jeeps where chrysler corp no matter the year, but one way or another i have yet again, another engine swap for my MJ weather it's a 3.5, 350, or 4.0, and hornbrod is right. when it comes to me, logic goes out the windows :rotf: Redwolf
  4. looks, i aint here to start an arguement on my build thread, i'm just sayin that everything is made the same now, as long as you use somethin the way it was intended to be used you won't break it and it won't be unsafe (unless defective) that's all i'm sayin propane conversion? i'd rather pay the price of gas, but a 4wd swap is coming once i have the funds for it and another daily driver i'll do everything i want to do to it, 4.0 or 4.2 swap, and 4wd convertion Redwolf
  5. 1. they're not cheap knock off, look just like spidertrax 2. still were over 100 bucks at 104 for 3. is what everything yall told me to get and yall are right, they're unuseable at the moment, i need to by longer wheel studs, i accomplished nothin today other than finding out i need longer studs. And as for you shelbyluvv, i did not waste anyone's time, i was doin what i've always been told called RESEARCH, i don't always have money for top name brand stuff that's 80% of the time made the same as the "knock-offs" here's a hint, as long as i install the spacers right and get hub-centric i'll have no problem.....stanley is just as good as snap-on Redwolf
  6. to it's been a while since i've done anything to the MJ other that playin around with vaccum lines to get it tuned right (which i'm still workin on). but tomorrow i'm puttin my roll bar back in and puttin 2" wheel spacers on from titan wheel accessories, this it's off to picknpull to look for leaf spring shackles for a new project (no it's not gonna be a lift kit) Redwolf
  7. The stock Jeep wheel studs sit within the wheel spacer. The wheel spacer is secured using nuts provided by the spacer manufacture. You can reuse your existing lug nuts to hold the wheel to the spacer. thanks, that deffently clears up a few things  Redwolf
  8. i knew they were hub centric but the wheel centric has me a little confused as to what that is (been meanin to ask about that) Look at the two photos in Hornbrod's post #60. The upper ones are Spidertrax. Do you see that ring around the center hole, inside the lugs? That ring (or flange) is the same size and diameter as the projection of the actual hub through the drum or rotor. The center hole of the wheel fits snugly onto this flange, allowing the flange to support the vehicle's weight and the lug and lug nuts only have to hold the wheel on the hub. On the back side, the side that mates to the vehicle's axle, the center hole has a small depression milled around it to allow it to fit snugly onto the hub flange of the axle. Now look at the lower photo. Notice that the outer face is completely flat/flush, from the outer edge right in to the center opening. No flange. Nothing to key into the center hole of the wheel. Don't buy them. If you can't afford to do it right, don't do it until you save some more money. thank you eagle, i knew how to tell if a spacer was hub centric from the outside of the spacer that the rim bolts to, but was not sure about a spacer bein hub centric on the inside, now i know  but i need have 1 more question about the spacers (other than the wheel centric), i've noticed on a couple different spacers (including spridertrax) where what looks like the old wheel studs poke through it has a depression (like the back of the spacers) is that for the nuts that come with the spacers to sit in? Redwolf
  9. 1. that didn't even answear my question. 2. i am listenin to your advice. 3. i can tell that the ones mud posted were not hub centric. 4. i still wanna know how can you tell if a spacer is hub centric on BOTH sides Redwolf
  10. how do ya know if they're hub centric on both sides? i'm lookin at a set of 4 (only cause i can't afford 200 for spidertrax) http://www.ebay.com/itm/331334549885?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Redwolf
  11. thanks guys, that clears a lot up, i'm just tryin to do some research before i buy the wrong spacers but now YXMJ throw a monkey wrench in the mix with bi-centric, should i still stick with gettin hub-centric or try to find bi-centric, Redwolf
  12. didn't know about the backspacing and as far as lift and tucking wheels i gathered that; however i did not know my turning radius will be effected, but i i still don't know how hubcentric spacers work on drums, i thought the hub was under the drum, Redwolf
  13. thanks but i do got 1 question before i buy spacers tomorrow. yall say i need hubcentric how do that work with drums on the rear axle? Redwolf
  14. so i can't really find 2" so i'm steppin it done to 1.5" in the rear and found these http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-5-inch-5x4-5-Jeep-Hubcentric-Wheel-Spacers-1-2-Studs-XJ-KJ-KK-ZJ-MJ-TJ-/380972451618?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2002%7CMake%3AJeep&hash=item58b3ba4722&vxp=mtr but i don't really know what i'm lookin at messurement wise, also that says for 02 wranglers and libertys but would they still work for the MJ? i also found a set of black 1.25 that i'm not sure about http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pc-1-25-HUBCENTRIC-Jeep-5x114-3-to-5x127-Black-Wheel-Adapters-Spacers-with-Lip-/151488643095?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2002%7CMake%3AJeep&hash=item23456d4017&vxp=mtr
  15. actually it's 3" past the fender flare, just found out today from the state trooper at my inspection station, he also said i'd be fine with 2" past the flares  Redwolf
  16. From what I know about you I wouldnt be worried about tucking the tires up into the fender. I think you are more into splashing through mud holes than climbing over obstacles. As far as using spacers to clear 31's you will probably be trading rubbing the control arms when turning for rubbing the back of the fender when turning. Either way you will probably rub a little but not that much. If you just want it for the look of the tires sticking out go for it. If I was in your shoes I would order one set of 2" spacers and try them on the front first if its too much stick them on the back and order 1.25" for the front. If you like the 2" on the front order anouther set for the rear. You said your friend was going to get them for your birthday or Christmas why not one set for each occasion and if you realy want to sling mud try taking off your fender flares I don't think florida cares if you have any tire coverage, but someone with chipped paint or cracked window may.lol i do like goin through mud holes but splashing through is all that happens, VA doesn't have really go mudding spots (well atleast not the hampton roads area). and i'd rather rub the fender that's melted some than the control arm, but i see what you're sayin about buyin one set and if i like it buy another, Redwolf
  17. well i'd be concerned about my 31s tuckin up in my fender if i had some, i'm currently on 30s and i never fully flex (not that i can anyhow) but my wheel tuckin up aint really a concern for me at this point, my main concern right now is stickin that tire out so i can fit 31s on the MJ (come income tax time) without rubbing, i want my tires to stick out atleast an inch past my fender, Redwolf
  18. i am lookin at doin it front and rear and that's what i thought but wasn't sure, that's why i asked about 2" but what if i do 2" on the rear and 1.25 on the front? Redwolf
  19. not as small as i thought they were, would it be possible to go 1.50 and not have the issues the 2" would give me? Redwolf
  20. Which is where they belong. Why is that a bad thing? What are the laws in your state? When I bought my '88 MJ the previous owner had removed the flares and crudely hacked out the mounting flanges. Within two weeks after putting it on the road with 31" tires, I got a ticket for having the tires extending beyond the body. Worse -- I was getting ready to leave for a trip, and I had ten days to fix it and get it reinspected. i believe the law is i can have them stick out 2inches past the fender flares but a lot of cops don't really inforce the law cause they don't really care aslong as you're in your lane  that's my next size too lol i come an inch away from rubbing with 30s, Redwolf
  21. Leverage. Go to your refrigerator and grab a gallon of milk. First, hold it tight against your body and see how long you can hold it. Then, hold it out away from you with one hand and see how long you can do that. Same concept with wheels and your bearings. i got that, just seems like 1.25 would still keep the tire in the fender, Redwolf
  22. alright, i know hub centric is safer and the longer the length on the hub the fast it wears but now i'm confused with backspacing, i have 4 stock turbine rims and that's what i'm stickin with but just want my tires to stick out more (it also might sling more mud on the MJ :D ) i've always wanted 2" but after bein told it'll wear the hub bearing faster the 1.25 doesn't seem so bad, but still seems a little small...... :needpics: Redwolf
  23. glad to know i need hub-centric spacers and what makes 1.25 different from 2" as far as eattin hub bearings, just tryin to do some research before i tell my buddy which ones i want lol, Redwolf
  24. thanks yall, my lugs might be 1/2x20 i don't remember, i know the label is yellow for a new one at advance lol and why not 2inch just out of curiousity, Redwolf
  25. alright yall, i need some answears on wheel spacers, my buddy wants to get my 2inch spacers for christmas or my birthday but he doesn't know if i can daily driver with them, if i can mud with them and what bolt pattern i need, i also have heard that they can fly off; so the questions for yall are: 1. can i daily driver and mud with them on? 2. what bolt pattern do i need? 3. my lug nuts are 1/2X13 do the spacer studs need to be the same? 4. how can i provent the spacers from flyin off? Redwolf
