Looking to buy a full gauge cluster for my 89 MJ. I am not looking to pay a half a fortune for one though. I do have some parts that I could trade if you would rather go that way. I have a bench seat and matching door panels, mirrors, etc. I will post pics of them later today in the for sale section. Lookin' To Buy Full Gauge Cluster for 89 MJ!!!!

Here's the story. :wrench: I did the swap to the full cluster with needles. Switched out all the sending units. Everything seemed to be working okay :D ; with the exception of the speedometer. When stopped sometimes it goes down to 0 and sometimes it stops at 5 mph. Now when I fill up my gas tank the needle only goes to 3/4. (Please on the next part, I am asking nicely don't bash my family). After a month or so my wife tells me that when I had the gauges out and in my "work spot" in the garage that my 4 yr. old pulled the needles off and tried to put them on her Barbie Jeep  . She got them from her and just stuck them back on. Can this be fixed with out spending alot? :wall: Is there a home remidy for this or what? :wall: Is there like a rule of thumb on where to place them? :wall: Any help is appreciated.

No. "Could I simply remove the gauges from the white unit (without removing the needles) and put them in the blue one"? To translate, the "white unit" is the HO gauge cluster housing; the "blue one" is the Renix. Three of the gauges are different and use different inputs, the clusters have different mounting bosses for the gauges, the 91+ is an electronic speedo - not cable driven, the printed circuit foil is entirely different between the two gauge pod housings, the fuel gauge is a different polarity, etc. etc. No way. Hey man, thanks alot!!!! I read in jpmagazine that 99+ manifold will directly bolt to the renix one and give 10 - 25 more HP. Is that tru? Is it really that simple or will something else have to be changed?

:hmm: Any ideas???

Question is in the title. Can I put gauges out of a 91+ in a 89 MJ. I know that ther is a difference in color and speedo cable, but what will make it work? The reason I wanted to know is because I have the column shift and made the cut for the indicator to go on the gauges, but all I'm finding are the ones in 91+. Could I simply remove the gauges from the white unit (without removing the needles) and put them in the blue one? Any advice is appreciated

To be perfectly honest with you; I even broke out the phillips screwdriver and tightened the interior pieces. No I am not joking on that. Amazing, isn't it? I was able to give you a kick in the butt all the way from Prescott, Arizona!! LOL. :agree:

Finally got. Man I tightened every visiable and reachable bolt from front to rear. Honestly I did not think to count them. Now we can put it to rest. :clapping: THE END!!!!!

Thanks genius!!!!! Just remember what's obvious to you may not be to me. I can tighten everyone I find, but if there was one that is hard to find I wanted to know about. He did say on one you have to go from the bottom up and to be perfectly honest there always seems to besomething behind or under something else. Again, like I stated in this post and others in the past, " I am in no way a mechanic nor do I claim to be one." Thanks for the advice everything is clear now or maybe it's obvious.

Anyidea on how many bolts there is on the manifold just so I'm not looking for something that isn't there? Hey man, Thanks again.
-
Bingo!!!!! I think that will do it. I looked at all of them and the front 2 were real loose. The first one was so loose that the washer nut thing behind it could be wiggled. Sorry about the terminology. I started it (before after listening and listening you could hear it a little), drove it, and no ticking atleast major. What exactly causes the bolts to come loose? Any way to prevent it?

:huh???: Forgive me... Like I always say,"I am not a mechanic nor do I claim to be one." I have heard of a harmonic balancer, but what is it? where is it? and what does it do? Thanks.
-
Still Ticking!!!! It doesn't sound like a lifter though. Honestly it sound like an exhaust leak, where it is I just don't understand where its coming from which seem to be close to the front. Not actually from the engine.

:agree: but at the time it was the only place I could find the aluminum one like I wanted. -

I had a similar problem with mine. I live in NC and I know it doesn't get as hot here. In my case I had to look at maybe a cheaper quicker option. Mac's Radiator has and aluminum tank to replace the plastic bottle (mine was always hissing). It works great because there is no plastic. Later I ordered a 2 row radiator from 4WD :typing: . I also have a set of hood louvers that I pulled from my old MJ and have yet to put them on this one, but they did work great. Hey, its worth a shot and no wiring fans. Good luck!!!!! -
I started listening real close and if you reaved the engine it could be heard a llittle. So I tightened the bolts on the valve cover and it seemed to work for the time. I haven't tried the others yet, it got dark. I didn't drive it very far seeing how I found it when it was parked. I drive 15 miles to work so I'll see how it does in th a.m.

Yes oil is good, but the transmission fluid is low.

Sorry 'bout that. It's an 89 Pioneer, 4x4, auto. on the column

My 89 Mj is ticking from under the hood. It does not tick when I first start it, but about 2-3miles down the road I start hearing tick, tick, tick. When I press the gas it gets faster, however, it doesn't do it if I pput it in neutral or park. Atleast if it does I can't hear it. Any ideas? Only thing I have done to it was the gauge swap, changed the sending units, and new air filter. As always; any help is appreciated.

 I think it should be standard practice for all of us to get a MJ as a wedding gift. Nice truck.

PS133 is the switch for the MJ/XJ oil pressure idiot light. Bring it back. You need Autismzone p/n CP7577 (called a sender / variable resistor) for your oil pressure gauge. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/1Sunpro-1-8-in-NPT-oil-pressure-sender-with-1-4-in-NPT-adapter-for-electrical-oil-gauges/_/N-269r?itemIdentifier=87626_0_0_ Am I right in assuming that this would cause the gauge to read incorrectly???? I like the autism zone :rotfl2: Any ideas as to my fuel gauge light not coming on at E?
