  1. we should do a tellico run.
  2. I agree with C-dude. Once you get rolling, an air pocket will for inside the bed and all remaining airflow will pass over in a streamlinded fashion. With the tailgate down the airpocket will not form and the resultant airflow will apply downforce to the back of the pickup causing drag. Mythbusters tested this as well. Not that they are always correct, but i believe them on this one.
  3. the magazine is back at my parents house. Ill try and find the article the next time I visit and get it scanned. it was about the top 10 muscle trucks of all time or something along those lines. basically talked about the power output of the 4.0L in a small pickup.
  4. This months issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine there is an article about the Eliminator Comanche. just thought i would pass this along.
  5. when i first did my soa, i just used Jeep yj spring perches. I left the stock overload leaf inplace. in the front to match, i use a set of RE 4.5" lift springs which didnt lift it high enough. So i also had to use a set of 2" coil spacers. It sat level after that. after about a year of running like that, and with the addition of a winch bumper, the front springs sagged and i then added an additional coil spacer to level it back up. so in the begging, i lifted the front roughly 6" to match the rear. It also depend on the condition of your current rear springs, whether they have been abused and overloaded alot throughout the years. hope that helps

    JP mag MJ

unless they soley plan on desert racing that truck, i can't see why they would go to the trouble of having the custom leaf packs made for sprung under. The pictures in the mag. show how much ground clearance they lost. Heck the only thing that hangs down under my rear axle is the .5" of the stock ubolts soa, and i have drug the heck outa the axle over some rocks at tellico. I can't imagine having that huge leaf pack and ubolt plate hanging down under there.
  7. here's a new lift for comanches that i stumbled upon today. some parts or the lift seem less desirable than others. doesnt mention anything about control arms. but those people with limited tools the rear bolt on soa would be nice. yall check it out http://www.rocky-road.com/comanche.html
  8. i havent had any problems with axle wrap with mine and its been SOA for 2.5 years. I left the over load leaf in, did not hurt the flex at all. One thing that you might want to do, is either purchase a set of extended length spring perches such as ones that M.O.R.E. sells (around 7" in length) or make your own out of some 2x3 rectangular tubing. I used a set of the MORE perches on my front d44. and havent had a problem with front axle wrap either. you can't see the rear flexing too well in the picture but it flexes better than the front. my rear shocks limit the droop and compression
  9. got any more pics of the rear bumper on the green mj.
  10. here's a few pics that were taken a couple weekends ago. Ill try and get some close ups of the spring perch on the cast section. Shocks are limiting my drop up front. and yeah i know i have a gimp head light
  11. I'd went spring over in the front. It was kind of a pain to grind the cast on the center section for the drivers side spring perch and ubolts. the rear was already spring over to match my old coil sprung lift. I went with a pair of YJ 2.5" lift springs but (soa). It say level, but i knew that they would probably settle. So i put in an Addaleaf. It sits about an Inch high in the front now after a few mild wheeling trips. for the adda leaf, I had an older set of 2.5" lift springs that my buddy robbed some of the leafs out of, so I just cut the eyes off each main leaf and used them as the addaleafs. Ill see if can get a few pictures loaded up this evening. let me know if need anymore information.
  12. are yall saying that I should just peel back the lip of the rubber grommet and and lay a bead and press back down the rubber grommet. Or should i pull the grommet out totally and try and reseal the window and then reinstall the grommet. The grommet was a PITA to put back in and get it to sit flush with the cab. thanks for the help..
  13. I've had a problem with water leaking in the cab. I think that it is coming from around the back glass. The double wall area at the back of the cab gets wet under real heavy rain. and then runs into the floor boards on each side. I havent taken out the back carpet panel to see if its running down the inside of the cab or inbetween the metal panels. (if that makes since) On the to the window.. My rear sliding window is glued in with the rubber gasket/grommet pressed in to fill in the void. Are the windows suppose to be glued in or is the rubber gasket suppose to hold the window in. (I know on alot of trucks the rubber gasket is what holds the window in. they are not glued in). A year or two ago, i pulled the gasket off to see if could see an area where water could run in. At the top of each corner there were dime size holes in the recessed area of the roof. above each corner of the window( they are not visible unless you take the rubber grommet off, i tried to silicone them up then). I'm not sure if under heavy rain the water cannot flow from behind the grommet fast enough and eventually fills up to those holes and then leaks in the back that way or not. Has any one had this problem? If any of this explaination isnt clear, Ill try and rephrase it. thanks
  14. Well i drove the truck for the first time in over a month. I swaped in a front waggy d44 with leaf springs. Took me a little longer than expected, but between school starting back with career fairs and senior design projects, and trying to work inbetween, i guess i can't complain on how long it took. I still have a few bugs to tweak out, but its driveable. Ill see if i can get some pictures up over the weekend. specs. 91 HO 4.0L Pioneer LB. 86 mj amc 20 rear end, 4.56 gears detriot 80's waggy d44 4.56 gears open. YJ 2.5" lift front springs with another 2.5 lift main leaf for an addaleaf. sitting on 33" mall terrains. hopefully in the process of getting 35" truxxs MT's. Havent decided what to do about the different bolt patterns yet. either find a waggy amc20 and swap the guts, or put Ford Hubs on the front and get 5x5.5 adapters for the rear. pics in the progess.. joe m.
  15. Is there a way for us to host pics on the comanchclub.com site. kinda have a members rig section, so we could put our pictures up. It would be neat to have it so we can upload any size pic, but have the site resize it for us. just a thought joe.
  16. the amc 20 rear, i have already has 4.56 gears and a detriot.
  17. I picked up an amc 20 with 1piece shafts 5x4.5 bolt pattern (believe it was an original mj rear end) does anyone know what size drums came on them, mine has 2.5" wide shoes with 11" drums I believe.( i am currently running this rear end now) I am putting in a front waggy d44 six lug in. and want the back to match. I believe the amc 20 rears from the waggys are the same width, however the brake shoes are only 2 inch wide and am unsure about the drum diameter. Can i use the waggy rear amc shafts in my rear end? what would i do about the brakes? thanks joe m.
  18. what about a factory hitch. or a drawtite hitch?
  19. i think its been discussed before. but will a shortbed reviever hitch fit a longbed, or are they different. if either case, does any one know of one forsale. thanks joe
  20. Down here in my part of hte country there seems to be an abundance of comanche's here recenty. When i first got mine 6 years ago, i never saw hardly any, maybe 1 every couple months. two years ago i finally brought my truck up to school with me so i could work on it a little more (now my second jeep). Well before that i never hardly saw any up here either. Now i see about 3 a week. One or two will be the same ones, with a new one here and there. Today on my way home from class, I was following a 91 or 92 Pioneer Short bed and low and behold a sport truck passed us going in the other direction. A couple weeks ago, i was coming home from work and saw a lifted mj identical to mine except it had a camper shell, pull out a couple blocks ahead of me, couldnt catch up (dang red lights), then going through the next intersection another identical mj to mine went by except it was stock. I think the guy was in shock after seeing two identical mj's go by, cause he about wrecked from rubber necking. well just a couple of mj stories that i thought i would share.
