this motor has always run like a top and still does. over 300 k on it. idles perfect and has lots of power but after coming down any long hill, once at the bottom and some throttle is applied it blows a huge puff of blue and then is instantly fine again. this is a newish development and seems to coincide with some fouled spark plugs recently. i'm fine with a motor swap but am wondering if perhaps i should only be thinking about changing the head. it does have the exhaust manifold crack as well as leaky rear main .

apparently this is how it started out.

chev 3/4 ton suburban with every other leaf removed from the pack, so 5 leaves in total. it rides pretty good but for flex i'd like to take one leaf out. I'm leaving it in for now though as i often find things in the bush that need to be brought home :)

this 35' douglas fir was down in a creek bed but still held up above the water by some debris. probably weighed 3 times the truck (or more) but with a roll and a spin ... viola , 4 loads to the good. :)

research tells me that the only (kind of) practical way to get a 2-speed transfer case into one would be to totally install the liberty engine (3.7). what a shame that the electronics won't allow a tranny/tc to work with the motor that comes with. otherwise it would be a bolt-on.

on a 4.5"lift with short arms the uca length is about the same as stock lenght. ive been looking at the 3 link long arms for a while now but lately I'm thinking to just get some lca's and new bushings for the uppers. then late at night i had this idea. ( I'm from b.c. - we invented colorado). anyway, why not just get some nice adjustable lowers and leave the pass-side upper out of the equation. obviously it's not needed and leaving it out may even increase the flex a little an be one less set of bushings to wear out. anyone see any reason why i should be committed ?

with a d30 swap of some kind. some even had 6 spd standards. i did a quick google search and didn't even find one that was modified to be actually suitable for off-road. so here's a random.

'89 pioneer with everything that's needed. http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/cto/4818519978.html although upon closer look i think the bedliner job was done backwards. i woulda put it inside the truck. still i had the same year, model and options and it was an awesome, tough truck.

other than the 91 eliminator which i paid a thousand for, - the blue one, the grey one, and now I'm just in from making a deal on a $300 one that sets a record for ugly, but has no rust. its a 87 short box 4x4, 4 cyl, 5spd sport truck (arent they usually 4 spds?). has a canopy and heavy rear bumper exactly like the one on my 91. its so ugly because someone painted it od green and it's that cheap because the internal slave doesnt even work a little bit. after the fiasco with my 91 I'm open to the probability that the clutch may be garbage too. in the case of the 91 the spring part of the clutch ( not sure what that part is called - with the points ...) turned out to be the problem so after a couple of new slaves a whole new clutch finally fixed it. anyway, the first 2 $300 mj s cleaned up fairly nice ( i was motivated because they were both fairly desireable. - sporttruck/schmorttruck) , and i think with a bit of work this one could end up making a good truck too. i drove it around the guys yard and it runs great, has a brand new battery, no rust (and no sliding rear window) and was about to be sent for scrap. so i threw out that i would give him scrap plus 100. i just emptied every pocket so this one will have to sit and wait just like the other ones did. :) pics to follow, but believe me, theyre nothing worth waiting for, lol.
