  1. Thanks that is what I was thinking. I don't think it had adjusted much if at all. There was no slop in the chain even without it installed.
  2. Finally got around to pulling the engine today. Rebuilding the 2.5 and doing a 4wd swap at the same time. Need to take some pics and get a thread started in the projects section. Anyways I can't decide to reuse the timing chain or not. The engine is pretty tired with about 250k on it, but the timing chain/gears were replaced along with the tension thingy about 25k ago (I have the receipt, it was my dads truck). I really don't want to spend $150 on another timing set and would rather put it elsewhere into the rebuild. Keep or replace? I don't see any reason why I couldn't...
  3. Best way to tell is check the pressure with a gauge. Pump, injectors or fuel filter would be my guess. Injectors could be really dirty, had mine cleaned a few months ago (135,000 mi) by Witchhunter performance. Before I did it took 2-3 seconds of cranking, now I just bump the ignition and it starts like the day I bought it. Gained 1 mpg and got a smoother running engine. http://www.witchhunter.com/
  4. I love bookmarks and jeep forums. Below is a CPS test procedure .Could be a bad PDC too I guess. Others might have more input, but it sounds like you've replaced the most common at-fault parts. http://www.cherokeeforum.com/showthread.php?p=67282
  5. That is the correct calculation assuming you are in 4th gear (1.0 ratio).
  6. I'd invest in a MityVac vacuum bleeder or similar system. One of my top ten investments made regarding auto tools. Works fantastic.
  7. There are always other options in the "two party" system that we've locked ourselves into. "Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost." --John Quincy Adams "Cherish, therefore, the spirit of our people, and keep alive their attention. Do not be too severe upon their errors, but reclaim them by enlightening them. If once they become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress, and Assemblies, Judges, and Governors, shall all become wolves. Thomas Jefferson, letter to Edward Carrington, January 16, 1787
  8. I recently used Witch Hunter Performance out of Washington state. They clean and service injectors for $18 ea. After the cleaning, my 01 XJ MPG wen't up and it starts just as quick the day I bought it new. I'd highly recommend this service to anyone. http://www.witchhunter.com/
  9. Can also be worn bearings and/ or just a really beaten up transmission with high mileage as was the case with my CJ w/ the T5. Did the same thing you described. End result was a badly needed rebuild.
  10. I've got a 91 2.5l that I'm fixing up. The engine had approx 230k on it but had really noisy valves and/or lifters. The oil in the pan was super clean and the cylinders look excellent. (pics below). My question is can I just rebuild the head and put new lifters on? I really don't see a need to do a full rebuild. The jeep was very well maintained by my father and didn't consume oil like other high mileage jeeps. Should I also pull the bearing caps while the pan is off?
  11. Have fun with your swap. I'm doing the exact same thing on my 91 MJ. Leaving the 2.5 and swapping in an AX5 out of an XJ with a 21spline 231. I'm going to have two driveshafts custom built from Tom Woods. High quality stuff and decent prices, bought two for my XJ.
  12. Thanks guys for all the responses. Glad to know lifting won't cost as much as my cherokee did.
  13. Forgive me if this has been asked already but the search function wasn't too revealing about my issue. I just inherited my father's 91 MJ which needs quite a bit of work done. Anyways, I'm eye-balling a 3" lift but I'm not sure if I need to budget for a SYE. I know on my XJ soon as I crossed 2" and went to 3.5" of lift I had bad vibes. Can anyone enlighten me on this issue? Thanks in advance. 8)
