my np231 in my xj as well as yj and mj all use the same plug which is a 30mm. I have a 12 point napa socket that works really good. good luck.

Well, I helped swap an xj steering box in a YJ and it fit right in, I just left one bolt out - after all there are 3 bolts holding it - the jeep has benn running like this for several years of fourwheeling w/o any issues....

CW, you know me.... if I look the other way and ignore it might fix itself - right?

where did you put your arb combressor???
juan replied to juan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm using ARB wiring harness - the harness uses 2 ground wires, a large gauge and a smaller one that they piggy back each other - both are grounded toqueter, look closely at the yellow connector (larger gauge) and red Connector (smaller gauge). I ran the switch leads into the dash using an arb switch to turn the compressor on and off - works pretty good! -

I knew someone would say something about the Fram Filter, Iam aware of all the controversy about it, I have been using Fram for over 20 years w/o any issues. I have 2 xj, one with 146K, an the other with 236K, the Mj has 160K and my VW golf has 196 - all use Fram filters.

Update - I got around and checked my cap and rotor. Both looked bad. A lot of corrotion, I went ahead and changed them. Next a removed all the plugs and they did not looked to bad - checked the gap and it was ok, right at .35. I ended up replacing them along with the spart plugs and wires and the comanche is running a lot better and the hesetation is gone!!!!

where did you put your arb combressor???

Update - I decided to mount the ARB Compressor behind the bench seat in the passenger side. I'm using the compressor to air up my tires and front / rear air bags. The back air bags are to lift the rear end when loaded and the front to help support the plow. I ran the wires thru the hump in the middle nice and neat to the switchin the dash. I have no carpet exept in the middle hunch so running the wires was not a problem. check it out.... -

I thought about the bed but my Mj is a working truck, I'm constanly hauling stuff. The ARB compressor I got from ebay a few years back for $60. I'm using it to air up my air bags in front to help support my plow and in back to level the ride when I'm loaded and of course to air up tires. I'm thinking in back of the rear bench seat - I'm about to go out to figure it out..... -
thanks guys, keep the sugestion comming, I'm about to go out and double check the ground to the pump which CW tells me is behind the driver side tail light. I'm keeping the fuel gauge with me at all times in case it start acting up again I can quickly test the fuel pressure - I just do not want to change parts w/o knowing if they are bad at all. I did a complete tune up 3 years ago (17K miles ago) and recently (3 weeks ago) replaced the O2 sensor. Do you guys think I should do another tune up?
-
I'm having a little bit of hesetation in my 88 mj, it comes and goes ramdomly, the jeep runs with a slight miss / king pull that the engine does. I'm thinking fuel problem but I tested the fuel pressure at the rail and I'm getting a constant 31psi. Is that acceptable? any suggestions?

Show me your location for your ARB compressor in your MJ - I'm about to put one in and I'm considering mounting it inside the cab because under the hood is very busy - where did you put yours???

I recently swapped a d44 into my MJ and was able to use my old d35 driveshaft that is a bit longer that the d44 driveshaft. Now this set up works although the slip yoke at the t-case end is almost all the way in - I think it will be ok because the rear end travels backwards because of the rear shackels - I have been driving it like this for a few weeks with no issues but I'm wondering if somene else has experience this swap and if they kept the d35 shaft. anyone?
-
OMG - CW I remember when you put those in not too long ago.... did ya call rusty? maybe he'll send you new ones.... dream on.... I think your welds will hold on untill you get replacement ones soon....
-
I have done this conversion on an 87 xj and 88 Mj with very good sucsess. You will need the 90 degree compressor fittings to be able to fill the system. In addition I installed a new dryer and removed the compressor to be able to completly remove all the old oil from it and since the system was open I used copressed air to blow out the lines too. Once everything is back togueter everithing works like advertised, it's been 4 years in the xj and 2 years on the mj!!!! good luck.

Tuff crawling at the mall huh!

CW - that is the way I'm starting to lean right now. The herculiner or the duplicolor one that brushes the same way as the herculiner. I'm thinking in giving it a few coats of this stuff to build it up. For the price is worth a shot. I'm going to watch the sale for these product and for warmer weather to do the work.
-
Yes - I also used the duplicolor stuff in the can on my rockers and inside the floor on both the xj and mj. It looks and works fine but I'm a bit concern about durability in the bed - I do not want to scrape it the first time I drag a shovel on it. I have seen the rhino and line x and like both but do not like the price, How about the Herculiner? anyone has anything to say good , bad?
-
Well I contacted a rhino lining place today and they wanted $525 to do the bed and the bed rails. I was hoping it will be a bit less - still looking.....
-
anybody has one? I'm looking to do the bed of my mj and do not know which one to get, any opinions? thanks.
-
I had a similar problem mith my 97xj - I know your mj is older but we both use the same transmission. My problem got solved when I removed the NSS and clean it, also make sure your NSS is installed and adjusted propertly. good luck.

Overheating and electric fan
juan replied to Bansheemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the electric aux.fan on older xj/mj's does not come on untill 210 / 220 degrees which is to late in my opinion - this is the way the factory did it. Now I did modifyed it and installed my own switch to manually turn the fan on once the temp gauge starts to climb. good luck
