There is an 89 Manche Pioneer at my local junkyard. It has a tilt steering column with shifter and cruise control. I need to replace my non tilt w/ shifter, no cruise. Mine is also an 89 Pioneer. Does anyone know if this steering will work??? Possible to add the cruise to mine? If so, what does it look like and where is it?

I specifically need the complete ignition with the column cover ( The whole piece under the steering wheel that goes completely around the column), as well as the metal piece the column shifter is attached to. (Which also goes all the way around the column). But I will settle for purchasing the whole column with shifter and keys..... not sure how hard it is to get the pieces only. Geez....I tried to link a photo, no go. Tried to bring in the code...no go. How the heck do you post pics here???

Mine's an MJ Pioneer..... Someone told me police XJs had column shifts for shotgun placement. I bought the truck with the column jacked already... I was hoping to replace the broken column.. I really don't want to convert it to floor shifter. Some of the experts here told me that column shift MJs are NOT that rare in another post.

I have an 89 Pioneer with column shift. The gear indicator is located in the dash gauge. Can anyone tell me what year they moved the gear indicator from the column to in the dash gauge? I saw a pic of an 86 comanche with it on the column itself. Also, does anyone know what other vehicles may be equipped with said shift column? I am having a hell of a time trying to find one. Mine is all broken due to theft.

Find your can or purchase another of PB.....and maybe bang it with a hammer as you try to loosen it.......after you heat it (the nut, not the shaft) really good.

JeepnDale replied to Automan2164's topic in The Pub
WooHoo! I must be one of the lucky few that got the "highly decorated veteran" 89 Pioneer with one of those optional packages he talks about at 8:40! I have the 4.0L and the one ton package! I love my "full, dressed out soldier'!! LOL Seriously, this totally made my day. I can't wait to show it to the spouse, who practically rolled her eyes at my MJ when she 1st saw it.....this'll show her.....LOL. -

Anyone save a pic? I missed it. :???: -
TOTAL MJ noob here, All the google searches had similar decoders. I could not understand my vin # according to this decoder (In Example) http://www.comanchemj.1hwy.com/custom3.html I have my actual build sheet. It was under the passenger door panel .Pretty cool, but I'd never seen one before, and I really can't decifer it either. It was much easier to ask the pros here anyways. Thank you ALL! I have a pioneer! Woo Hoo!

Electrical Issues In Multiple Circuits
JeepnDale replied to Winchesterjeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hi folks, Ever encounter this one? Starting to go through my recent purchase, an 89 MJ, still not sure exactly what it is, because the vin # doesn't make any sense...I'll ask that question on another related thread. Anyways, all the lights work except the tail lights. I replaced the bulbs, then checked the fuse....it was gone....hmmmm...... took the 10amp clock fuse and replaced it. YAY! they worked! THEN, I tried to start it.......nothing.....again, nothing. Took out the fuse I just put in, and it's blown, and now the truck starts fine....crap. I hate electrical issues. Anyone help? -
89 Mj With Column Shift?!!

Sounds like a conversion is the best thing to do. Were there any XJs made with the column shift? -
89 Mj With Column Shift?!!
JeepnDale replied to JeepnDale's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It is totally jacked. The key tumbler area has been reamed to about twice the size, and the housing has a big rip in it to accomadate the screwdriver to start it with. I'm glad to hear it's not too rare. I have a 99' XJ, and just assumed they were all floor shift because of that I guess. The blinker housing doesn't work either. I will post a pic of the jacked column later....if I can figure how to. Thanks for the reply. -
