I made my own. It made from 3.25" sprinkler pipe. Its at least a 1/4" think. Did the front as well. I cut the ends to keep it tight to the body than boxed it in so its sealed. Then I bought a receiver extention and cut it in to the tube and welded it all up. To reinforce it I have a set of bars that will bolt to the extention then angle up ending above the axle. I will bolt those in two places with 1/2" grade 8 bolts. No pics of the reinforcement as I haven't done it as yet...its been cold and snowy!!

Hi-Lift....where is yours???
CWLONGSHOT replied to CWLONGSHOT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Bic (anyone with answer), Speaking of your rollbar. I think you said somewhere it was a DODGE DAKOTA bar. Did you get it at a junk yard or a PepBoys type place? How did it fit or was there any fitment issues? I REALLY want to do this!! Tjis looks easier/faster than waiting for a factory bar!!! Thanks, CW -
I have a 1989 Comanche long bed 4.0 auto 4X4. I though I had a line on a set of 3" springs but it was a typo. they where XJ springs. SO now I need to go back to plan A and go down to Superior Spring, a local leaf spring manufacturer. The trouble is they speak in terms of size and payload, not necessarly lift. I believe the legnth is 59" and the width is 2.5 but what is stock payload? I am figuring it must be in the neighbor hood of 1500lbs. But I would rather NOT guess. HOPEFULLY, frome there I can come to a size to get me the 3" of lift I need. Thanks, CW

BIC, Man you need to clean that Jeep!!! :P Pete, I very much like yours!! I am also looking for a roll bar. I know Bic has one form a Dakota and that may be an option. Currently I have a home built Tanneau covering the bed and thats OK, but its 3/4 Ply wood and for the summer I really WANT my bed back!!! I'll be lifting it another 3" come spring and would like the pick up look back!! Image Not Found Juan, Where are you? We look to be close we should get together and have a coffee some time!!! Last week end I went down to a local shop to have mt tars mounted and took a buddie. hes kinda loopie, I think I need some new friends!! Here he is doing a Vanna white on my new to me tars!! Image Not Found don't get me wrong, hes a great guy and all, just a bit loopie, OH and hes HOOKED on Dunkin' Donuts coffee!!! :? :P :P CW -

Yet another fitment question....
CWLONGSHOT replied to CWLONGSHOT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had to do the rear brake lines as well...thing its the way it is for MJ's! Doing it with the bed off is smart!! I have rust the bed is prety bad. I cut out what I could find and covered with the diamond plate. The rockers are gone but not aweful, i will be fabbing up some rocker protection to fill the area back in. the cab corners rusted thru this winter....that was a surprise. The rear flairs MUST get attention this spring as well. but the drive line is excellent, and the truck only has 66,000 ORIG miles on it!!! CW -

Yet another fitment question....
CWLONGSHOT replied to CWLONGSHOT's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks man!! I have the factory LCA's just now. But will be lifting another 3 inches come spring and have a set of R>E> control arms going in then!! Got any pics? I LOVE these rims!!! Here is mine now: Image Not Found CW -
I have a couple sets of factory rims and I would really like to use them! My favorites are the Jeep 10 spokes. I do have the center caps for them. Image Not Found I have a set of Trexus 31" swampers to put on them. I feel they are gonna rub on my LCA's in the front. I have a 3" lift now and its going up another 3" come spring, so its not the height I am worried about. I ordered a set of 1.25 spacers just incase. What do you think? CW

I bought these bucket with MJ bracket attached!!! NICE SCORE, I thought!! I will keep the brackets and ditch the bench, if a friend dosent want it. I will be using the XJ console from that 90 XJ I stripped. CW

There is three sending units but you only need to cahnge TWO! DO NOT CHANGE THIS ONE!! Change these two; This is the OIL sender, its just behind and below the distributor: And this coolant temp, it at the back or the block on the drivers side just behind the last injector: I bought brandy new ones as I sold the others with the engine. Cost about 50$. I also went so far as to change out all the bulbs in the dash while I was in there. GOOD LUCK!! CW
-
I got the gauges and sending units in today!! Everything look and works GREAT!!! Here it is...all done! CW
-
OUT with the OLD..... IN with the NEW!!! I had been soalking the nuts for more than a week, everything came right out!!! That new Liquid Wrench FOAMING works VERY well!! I didn't get to the gauges... maybe today before the game. I did get my front skid plate and new chrome front end on!! I'm generally not a fan of chrome, but put some diamond plate on the bed and with this out front I think it looks better. Image Not Found CW

Woddy, That looks SUPER!! Was there any problems with the mounting bolts? My front ones are very rusty....I'm a bit worried about twisting them off. That head liner looks great as well!!! How did you do it? What did you re-cover it with? CW
-
Hey man, Did you ever finish and take some pics?? I HOPE to do mine this weekend!!! I got the seats all cleaned and the bases re-painted black. I have been spraying the nuts, on the mounts, in the cab all week. I also have the center console all cleaned and waiting for the install. If time permits, I'll put in my new gauges and sending units as well as the clock and switches i harvested out of my parts 1990 XJ lariot!! CW
-
Congrats woody!!! I have mine on the garage floor waitin for better weather to get them in!! I was lucky enough to have found a set of 2DR XJ sport seats, the ones with the tilt as well as forward and backward adjustments. They are also very clean, W/no appreciable wear!! Actually, this week end was grand, but had to finish parting a XJ that was in the drive way BEFORE I started another project!!! One of the BEST parts is they are already mounted to MJ brackets!!! That XJ I just finished parting out had a very nice center console, so that will be going in as well!!! I anxiously, await your pics!! CW

MJ Questions From the New Guy
CWLONGSHOT replied to Eliminator89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Not to higack, BUT....:) I have a 1990 AX15 from a XJ, A friend has a 88 MJ with a BA10, is my AX15 a direct swap for his BA10? They are both from 4WD Jeeps two years apart. As far as I know both should be 21 SPL, but not sure if the BA can just be unbolted and the AX bolted back in its place. Thanks, CW -
NO I do not believe just a bolt will work. Most auto parts stores I have been in have a section with fittings, unions and plugs. get a brass plug from them. CW

There is enough information on this subject to make your head spin!!!! :D The post right above this one, (As I write this) is dealing with the same topic. http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=439 Do a search here using "REAR BRAKES". Here is one from NAXJA, using "MJ rear proportioning valve." http://www.naxja.org/forum/search.php?searchid=786073 A member EAGLE in both places has a wealth of information posted. Good Luck, CW

My rear prop valve lines went last summer. I ran completely new lines fron the distribution block to the rear line, eliminating the return line as well as the prop valve all together. NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER!!!! The Brake light did remain on on the dash. I ran this for a couple months until I got my havds on a XJ prop valve. I plumbed that in. Its completely normal driving pickup. EVERYONE I have had locks the rear tires first if the bed is empty. To do so you really need to depress the brakes, its not dangerous or unpredictable AT ALL. This is a '96 Dodge Dakota rear brake line. Its longer than the YJ line many recomend. The little clips on the hose is for the ABS line...The other hose is the axle vent line. Here is a pic BEFORE I changed to the XJ valve. I eliminated the bottom line and used the "nose" line as rear brake line. I left the "return" line in place until I was certain everything would work as it should. I removed it with the XJ valve install. CW
