  1. Is the synchro for the 5th gear in an Ax-5 the same for any of the gears?\ Ok, and another thing, out of complete morbid curiousity. I've never seen anything on this, but if it's possible right now this may be my cheapest option... BA 10/5 behind the 4 popper?
  2. You have to wait 4 days for a gasket? I picked one up at CarQuest, they had about 9 billion in stock and it was like 8 or 9 bucks.
  3. When I pulled the 4.0 out of my XJ I had one end of the chain on the farthest back manifold bolt and the other end on one of the bolts for the AC bracket. I also had a hand winch strapped to the arm of the picker and that went wherever... I was also pulling without the tranny.
  4. There are square head sockets and bits you could try, but you're probably going to have to go out any buy some if you don't know anyone that would have some.
  5. Just be careful when you pull the lower radiator hose, coolant showers are not as refreshing as one might think...
  6. I don't think so. If there was one, it would tell you in your owner's manual. I've never heard of an O2 sensor relay.
  7. Generally I'd have to agree, but when I opened up the Ax-4 it looked like the layshaft and output shaft are setup for the 5th gear, they're just simply missing. I've been looking for an Ax-5 but It's been proving more difficult than it seems it would.
  8. I've seen a 92 with a 4 popper.
  9. Wait...are there two donor vehicles? Otherwise, why not just drive the one with everything in it?
  10. Maybe you can run me through that quick when I'm out there too I don't want to monopolize too much of your time though, but if you could that would be awesomness.
  11. I also agree...awesome rules. I was on Jeepsunlimited before I was fortunate enought to find the Club, and I had asked a question, I was going to be putting an Ax-15 behind a 360 in a J10. I was told that if I needed to ask questions, I shouldn't be doing the project. So much nicer here.

  13. Are Ba10/5s really that bad of tranny? I had one in my 88 XJ that had 207k on it when I junked it, and the only problem the transmission ever gave me was it liked to pop out of 1st once in a while if you didn't hold the shifter forward. I didn't do too much 4 wheeling with it, but it would still smoke them pretty good and I towed a Supra several times and it was fine. (a big ford guy told me a 4.0 would die if you tried to pull more than 4000lbs with it....lol. I pulled the 3700 lb Supra with driver and my truck didn't even know it was there.)
  14. I'm probably going to be adding to my collection of Ax-4s this weekend, and I might be getting the parts for a fifth gear out of an Ax-5. How easy is it to convert the Ax-4 into an Ax-5? I also don't have a press, I've got an Ax-4 Midplate assemble sitting in my bench vise right now, and I'm a little concerned on what I would do with the plate where the fifth gear on the layshaft would go. I originally tore this one apart for the input shaft, I was told it would go into my Toyota w56. I'd rather have an Ax-5 go into my truck though.
  15. My family's junked 3 XJs, and I've been able to use many of the parts on my MJ. A lot more whenst my motor swap begins
  16. I was actually thinking of adding cruise to my truck too, although I was just gonna look for an aftermarket kit. I found one that looks pretty universal for anything from 85-97, which covers every MJ ever made. http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... &langId=-1 It's only $90 on amazon, and it doesn't look too difficult to install.
  17. Does anyone have a sprayed on bedliner? How much did it cost? Are they as good as the commercials say?
  18. I bet it'd smell just so lovely when you started it up after that too.
  19. Thought of something else today that may be a problem... With the bigger block going in there, am I going to need different front springs? If I am, it's not too much of a problem since I kept the springs off my XJ. Also, if I do need to replace them, can I do it without removing the axle from the control arms? When I took the springs off the XJ all four CAs were already removed.
  20. Not really, unless you count some work with photoshop. I did that as a school project, using school materials. I never really thought my other paintings were all that great, but you can see them here Although, I did do this with photoshop a few years ago;
  21. You have a tranny out of a Supra? Which one is it?
  22. He doesnt have the 4.0, he's got the 2.8 V6, so it would weigh considerably more.
  23. Yeah I saw a lot of problems with getting the cylinders that close together, .010 over will be just fine. Alright, another thing I thought of, when I get this all done and in the truck, would it be better to keep the 3.55 in the rear, or swap the 3.07s out of my cherokee axle in there? I am planning on lifting it eventually, and getting about 30 in tires on it, so I'm thinking I'll just keep the 3.55s and not bother changing it. The other thing too is the 4x4 conversion. the front axle I have has 3.07s in it, so that will obviously have to be changed to 3.55s if I keep the gearing in the rear.
