I want to build a stroker

I'm building my MJ to look and handle like a pre runner :D And i want to get the max power out of the jeep engine I figure that If i built a 4.6l stroker and used the ho head a curved runner intake manifold and a bored out throttle body that i could get within the area of 270-300hp which i think would be plenty what are your thoughts DO NOT say for me to put a sbc in my jeep because to me that is just :nuts: and un :USAflag:

plus the thought of a hoped up inline 6 roaring by my buddies would pretty much be the same as nutkick.gif

Theres a whole lot more to building a stroker then just having the interanls. :brows: I personally think the idea is just :nuts: . You can get more power and useable torque out of a 4.3 or a SBC, and it would be cheaper and easier to do. But back to your topic You are going to have to fill water jackets, in either the block or the head to make this work. also depending on how you do this you are going to have to have the crank machined on the ends. BTW just cause you can get the machine work for free doesn't mean they will know what they are doing :roll: Talk to XJowner over on http://mpjai.com/phpBB2/index.php he did this very thing you are talking about and he would have been better off swapping in a built 4.3 .

Just last week I finally finished a very long term 4.7L stroker for my 89 Comanche. I am running an 87 block, HO head, intake, 62mm TB, 26 lbs Accel injectors, adjustable MAP sensor, Borla header, K&N FIPK, flowkooler h2o pump, Hesco pistons w/ 4L rods.

So far it runs ok except for a high idle problem. It won't idle under 1200 rpms but other than that it seems to run strong. I am still babying it as I only have about 70 miles on the motor so far.

While I had it apart I swapped in a 96 Cherokee power brake booster, master cylinder and prop valve and replaced all the rubber lines. I removed the rear height sensing valve and so far the braking is tons better. I also made some 1/0 gauge battery cables while I was at it.

Next project it a Ford 8.8 sitting on the floor of my garage. I need some spring perches and I will be ready to start that swap....

Always a work in progress.......

Man is that web site (or that article) out of date. Accurate Power has been out of business for a couple of years.

 

You may think you have all the internals, but if they aren't properly matched you WILL have severe pre-ignition problems. I suggest that you get on the NAXJA forum (www.naxja.org) and contact Dr. Dyno. Dino Savva is a doctor who runs a stroked XJ and has done CONSIDERABLE research into what's needed to make them run well. You could also contact Bob Salemi, in Woonsocket, RI. He's also on NAXJA, but I don't know how frequently he visits the forum. he runs a pro stock drag MJ with a stroker, and his daily driver is an XJ with a stroker.
