MiNi Beast Posted April 5, 2008 Share Posted April 5, 2008 Well with Dune Coon's help, got the ube on tonight. Got the 8.8 up on jack stands Me... Dune Coon... Did a little grinding on the UBE to get that snug fit... A little touch up to better suit Dune Coon... Now some measuring... Measured off Dune Coon's Jeep Pinion angle was set at 88* Cut off axles mounts for emergency brake cable bing they hit the UBE, being the width was center to center spring bolt hole, 43 3/8" Then spot welded to keep UBE from tweaking... Now for a full weld... Then the rest of them... 1 1/2" spring under???? @#$% no!! Shock mounts pretty much kept in stock position up on axle... lined them up in the middle with the outside edge of UBE.. Done @#$%er... Dune Coon Customs Have to give thanks to Dune Coon for he is a busy guy, but he has helped me out when needed. And even more being that the same time last year he helped me put perches on this same 8.8 and put it under my MJ. It eliminates the use of a u-bolt...what that means is that on stock setups a u bolt wraps around the axle and on the end of the u-bolts is a plate that sandwiches the leaf springs in place on the perches. What a U-bolt eliminator (UBE) does is it takes away these u-bolts and uses 4 grade 8 bolts that hold the leaf spring in place on the perch. What's not pictured in this write-up is the top plate that the bolts attach to. Essentially this setup is arguabley stronger then u-bolts as well as a safe way to lift your vehicle (safer then blocks). They can be found in a 0.5", 1.0", and 1.5" lift flavor. Clear as mud? Ideally, when welded on you will not have a shim in place like I do, but when I had the welder weld them up I forgot to mention he should compensate for the 4* shim. mj Mike Posted February 12, 2011 Share Posted February 12, 2011 When I welded my U-Bolt Elimanators, I was running a AX15 2wd transmission. There for, even though I run spring over, I still had the set the perches at the stock location. Later on I swapped to a 4wd AX15 trans, and a NP242 transfer case, with a Rubicon Express slip yoke elimanator. Looks good BTW. real easy to make you own, my buddy made a set for his XJ based off mine. your spring is 2.5" wide so then make it as big as you want or as tall as you want. one thing I liked best about it was being able to add some lift with these. :yes: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
