Galford
So, I dropped the AX-5 out of the Mj and noticed that the slave Cylinder has a Rivot in one of the posts, What do I need to do to properly remove the slave? Drill the rivot? Should there not be a rivot there? here's a Photo, the Screwdriver Tip marks the Rivot. Also posted More Photos in the Mj Build Page. ~Ryan
brigarpeon
Yes drill out the rivet to remove the slave. LUK has a pin and retainer nut that they sell to replace the rivet. A little shadetree mechanical design and you can build a retainer with a screw, a tap and a nut. Think it through.
Galford
Great, I just wanted to ensure that cutting off that rivot wouldnt screw me later. ~Ryan
mjeff87
replied in your build thread, but just saw this post, and I'll post it here as well..... DO NOT drill that out. There is a small post pressed into the bearing retainer that has a small groove in the end of it, that the throwout/slave slips over. It is capped with a small circular clip (called a Tinnerman clip) that slides over the top of the post, and the inner tangs of it pop inside the groove. Grab a pair of needlenose and pop that clip off, and the old assembly will come off of the post. New clutch kits come with a replacement clip ;) Jeff
brigarpeon
It can be done in the "factory way" for sure. If you ever see what happens to the SLAVE when the clip falls off you will wish you changed it. Elsewise, why would a major clutch manufacturer like LUK, offer a kit and include it in their clutch kit? To tell you the truth THE BEST thing you can do with it all apart is get an early bellhousing and change over to the external slave cylinder and forget that shaft ride'n nightmare. carnuck
I have modded the integral slave bell to external slave on 2 bells so far (second one was because I didn't realize I need the cut out for the CPS sensor)
