aerocorey
There's a port in the side of the throttle body right above where the MAP sensor gets its vacuum. What is it?

aerocorey
Mmm..can't right now. Camera is packed up. On my '90 there's a hole in the side of the throttle body about half an inch above the port where the MAP sensor vacuum line plugs in. It's the same size as the MAP sensor port but I can't tell that it goes anywhere.
offroader461
i don't recall anything going in there but a dummy plug...both of my jeeps (87MJ and 90XJ) have nothing but a "plug" in them to prevent a vacuum leak
Geonovast
I'll try to dig out my renix TB tomorrow and take a look at it.
jtdesigns
I think you might be talkin about the hole the map plugs rubber boot snaps into.. hold on I have a TB let me run get it.
jtdesigns
Yeah its the top hole right? Its just a blank hole.. I figured it was just to keep the maps plug in better or something.. Its probably 3/8" deep and bottoms out.
aerocorey
I wasn't sure. My MAP sensor line was pretty fragile so I replaced the rubber plug and hard plastic line with a rubber hose. The hose I used had just the right outer diameter so I just spit on it (very complicated professional technique) and pushed it in the hole. I gave it a little tug to be sure it isn't coming out, but then I was left with that little double plug thingie. The plug for the top hole has an orifice in it and I thought it might be required, so I cut the double plug in half and stuck the top half back in (no spit required). If it's just for alignment I'll take it back out.
mjdoa
hi,all,my first post. Might as well be here,I guess. I just got an "88 mj 4.0,it'll be a resto project. In searching for a vacuum leak this weekend, I found the same problem you have, but in that upper hole was a screw, just flopping around.I assumed that it'd come loose and wallowed out the hole in the tb,I rtv'd the line into it. Just happen to work at a Dodge dealer parts dept,so I ordered a new line .It came in this a.m.,and after reading your post I looked closely at it.That upper plug is a barbed plug like the lower one, and has a hole clean through it,so apparently it's just a locator, and not supposed to have a screw in it either,so I'm gonna replace it anyway since I got it,but I think we're both ok. Retail from your friendly Mopar dealer is $23 for that line,so vacuum tubing and spit is probably a lovely idea!Might want to rtv it in ,though, since the map sensor is on the firewall, you'll have lots of vibration in that line to the engine. As I said, new owner, new member, welcome me aboard. I just now was allowed to post,so don't have a signature or avatar ready yet,I'll do it tonight after work.
