Area52 Posted October 24 Posted October 24 So I picked up Lurch's 92 back in July. He had a no spark situation when I got it. He had replaced the CPS, coil and dist cap. I replaced the ASD relay and checked fuel pump was putting out pressure. Replaced the CPS anyways and still no spark. I back probed the CPS orange wire and got about 8 volts with the key in the "on" position. So that would mean grounds are probably good yes? And CPS getting power? Are the grounds any different on a HO than a Renix? I'm more familiar with the Renix engines . Next step check the sensor in the distributor? Anything else? Thanks to everyone on here, this is a great spot for us MJ folks.
Eagle_SX4 Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Make sure the distributor is spinning. I had a cam gear fail and it ate the distributor gear. This is not a common problem but still possible.
pizzaman09 Posted October 26 Posted October 26 My suggestion isn't based on experience but you might check the conncections at the ECU, unplug it, contact cleaner and plug it back in.
Area52 Posted Tuesday at 01:44 AM Author Posted Tuesday at 01:44 AM Distributor turns, cleaned ground at oil dipstick bolt, driver's side rear engine head to body, battery negative to body and drivers side inner fender by the ECU. Cleaned ECU contacts. Still no spark. Next up - check distributor camshaft position sensor, and ignition coil connector.
Smash6 Posted Tuesday at 03:57 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:57 PM It sounds as if the CPS is getting power, so next I'd check to see if the distributor is getting sufficient voltage. There are many videos on YouTube on how to check voltage at the distributor.
