eaglescout526
Ok here’s a fun one. You can not get new boosters for the V8 ZJ. Now what can one do in this situation? I met a couple the other weekend thanks to an AMC friend who said I’d be able to help them. They got a ZJ that was running and currently has no brakes. They were told the booster is bad. I’m going to confirm that this weekend. But upon searching for a booster, they were told you can not get a new booster. I tested that and lo and behold you can’t! Well damn. Anyhow, I call upon CC to help. Would a WJ booster fit? Would that be considered an upgrade to the ZJ? They want this Jeep to be something their granddaughters can drive and I sure as hell want it to be damn safe and reliable.
Eagle_SX4
There appears to be some on rockauto. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/jeep,1995,grand+cherokee,5.2l+v8,1182114,brake+&+wheel+hub,power+brake+booster,1884

I wonder if 94 is a one year only thing. I’ll get with the owners and see if that’s the route they’d like to go. I can’t imagine there’s much difference. Eagle_SX4
The 95 ZJ booster looks just like the dual diaphragm booster used in the XJ's in 95. Although it appears to have a shorter actuation rod. The 94 and 95 ZJ's used different boosters and different master cylinders. You could probably change both out and maybe fab up some brake lines and be back on the road. I’m really hoping the booster isn’t bad but the owner said that when he plugs the line to the booster, the engine runs fine but runs rough when unplugged. So I’ve got a bit of digging on this one. 89 MJ
I wonder which end of the hose he is plugging. Hopefully its something like a bad hose instead of a bad booster. I know, wishful thinking.

I’m inclined to believe his diagnostic method, I will see for myself, this poor ZJ has been beaten on and abused. How ever, when off the pedal is rock hard and it doesn’t even have any brake fluid in the master.
