WahooSteeler
What would be the stock, or most likely, rear diff ratio on an 87 2.5L, 5spd, 2WD w/D35?
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW
Probably 4.
WahooSteeler
Thanks Adam. Next time, don't take so long to respond, ya hear? :D Ok then, while I'm asking, how about an 88 4.0, AW4, 4x4, D44 w/factory trac-lok and tow pkg "B"?
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW
Probably 3.55 That fast enough for ya? :D
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW
And just for reference. 3.07 - used with 4.0L engine / manual transmission 3.55 - used with 4.0L engine / automatic transmission 4.10 - used with 2.5L engine usually (not always, but 90% of the time) 4.56 - rare but can be found on some older (~ 89 ~) models with 2.5L engine and auto transmission
WahooSteeler
Better, still room for improvement though. :laughin: I figured 4.10s on the 2.5, but I was worried I had 3 oh sebens on the D44 cuz at 65-70mph w/30x9'5s she's only turning about 2100-2200 revs. can't imagine w/tow pkg anyone would have put those in there though. 355s i think are perfect for my use. a little help on mpg and still able to tow or haul 3 scoops of mulch! Thanks again...........
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW
3.07 was only found on manual tranny equipped 4.0L's. Now XJ axle's are a totally different story, as their were a few additional axle ratio's found in them...
Geonovast
And just for reference. 3.07 - used with 4.0L engine / manual transmission 3.55 - used with 4.0L engine / automatic transmission and 2.5 with 4 Speed manual transmission 4.10 - used with 2.5L engine with 5 Speed manual transmission 4.56 - rare but can be found on some older (~ 89 ~) models with 2.5L engine and auto transmission My red truck has a 2.5 / 3.55 because it originally came with a 4 speed. They did that, because with 4.10s and a 5 speed, your final drive is about the same as 3.55 with a 4 speed. With 3.07s on stock tires you'd be turning about 2k at 65 mph. So at bigger tires it would be considerably less. Believe me, the 2.5 is a dependable little motor, but I seriously doubt it could turn 30's with 3.07. Mine has a little trouble sometime turning stock comanche tires at 70mph+ in 5th with 3.55. Geonovast
I'm not saying it's not possible. Anything can be from the factory, the original buyer just has to request it.

The rule of thumb is that 2.5L + AX4 = 3.55 gears. But the only way to know for sure is to check.
