2.5-4.0 swap

Recommended Posts

I’m currently swapping in a 1993 4.0+ax-15 out of a Cherokee into my 1986 Comanche with a factory 2.5. Swapped in a 95 Cherokee harness and need help merging taillights. I would like to keep factory plug/wires leading back from the cab. What would be the best way to go about this? Motor has not been inside the jeep yet (except to teach me I need different motor mount brackets) Any other tips for the swap would be appreciated :D

The factory 4.0 mounts from your donor should drop right into the 86 mounting holes....

How about that firewall clearance? And factory track bar upper mounting holes? And fitting the 4.0 radiator into that radiator support?

I have a thread somewhere on this forum highlighting these things I'll see if I can find it

Confirmed I did need to get 4.0 motor mounts, and bang out the fire wall. I’m currently sourcing transmission wiring and the wiring that goes to the oil press sensor + coil since the guy I bought it from didn’t give me the full harness :/.

Does anyone have a diagram or can tell me what wires do what if I have to make them? Also just found out my little ax5 had a different crossmember then the ax15:(

Other than that project is going pretty well so far.
