manifold gasket

Recommended Posts

I planned on replacing my intake gasket on my 1987 Comanche w/2.5L engine. The first one I purchased has a foil surface on both sides. When I removed the manifolds I found a crack about 2/3's of the way around the exhaust manifold. I purchased a new replacement which came with a new combo manifold gasket. One side has the foil surface and the other side has a typical paper look. Which one is better if there is any difference and which surface goes toward the head?

I’ve always had fitment and sealing issues with the full manifold gasket. Chrysler used the one piece for the intake manifold until 2001 when they stopped making the engine. I don’t recommend the full ones but, you already have them. Which ever one will fit best and work without any issue, run it. Neither surface makes a difference.

The Chrysler factor gaskets for the 2.5 and 4.0 engines are not the most reliable in sealing the joint.   (To put it in other terms, they suck.)

I have used Remflex gaskets for years with no issues.  Go to their website, and you will find ones for both of the MJ engines there.  They are more expensive than OEM types but they don’t leak/fail with age.
