I have a new lock ring and o ring for my 90 MJ is it as easy as switching it out? I am afraid that no matter how careful I am that my fuel gauge won’t work correctly when I’m done 

do you have any thoughts please

If all you’re replacing is the sender gasket and lock ring it should be a piece of cake. Just don’t move the sender. I would use a brass punch or rod (non-sparking) to knock the ring loose and tighten.
