Renix intermediate pipe BRE mandrel bent stainless. Installed 7-2025

Recommended Posts

So, my aftermarket intermediate pipe cracked at the corrugated looking bend on our last 2200 mile adventure. I was lucky to find a shop in Barstow to repair it for us after I clamped a chili can over it.  I'm looking for a higher quality replacement. I've considered the 91+ since it's more readily available, but my manifold is pretty new and not cracked yet, so I don't really want to change it and deal with the EGR stuff. I found this one that Magnaflow sells, but naturally it's on BO. Has anyone else found anything besides the cheap aftermarket ones?

I think that I will also add some better hangers and a flex joint to the system while I'm at it.

  • 5 months later...

Well, I ended up backordering the BRE/Magnaflow pipe and finally received it nearly 6 months later. It is a mandrel bent stainless pipe and doesn't have the crushed area of the factory pipe. Interestingly, it also includes front wheel drive type mounting hardware with springs for the manifold connection. I'll update you on the fit once it's installed.

Ok, I finally installed the new pipe. It has a lot more driveshaft clearance than I had before, but is a bit closer to the oil pan. I glued some FelPro exhaust gasket material  to the pan as an insulator. I did have to modify my home made transmission to exhaust mount to better center the pipe to avoid contact with the crossmember. Mounting it to the trans hopefully let's them move together to avoid stressing the pipe, (old one was mounted to the body and eventually cracked). It also included FWD type spring bolts, so that should let the pipe move a bit as well. The rest of my exhaust is 2-1/2 with a dump before the rear axle, so it should be pretty free flowing. No leaks on initial startup.
