fiddlermj
Ok. Ok ok ok. I have EXCESSIVE OIL BLOWBY. compression was 127-130 across. Friend helped me with this part. Spark plugs looked good and he said compression was great. He did not think rings were problem. There is a knock… which we think maybe a wrist pin because there was no hunks in the pan. Hell, the whole problem may be where my weak lil self had a time inserting or properly bolting the intake/exhaust back on to spec. Which its not. Because, it was 110° in georgia…. And I had a hell of time getting that sh*t back in. That was the only gelluva a time I had. I have read all of cruisers tips. Ive yet to do the oil fil cap… cause I'm on road and not home yet.its definitely blowing out the oil cap…. And air box, and all down my chassis and grrrr. BUT. 88 4.0 6cyc ive replaced lifters, rockers, push rods, rod bearings, main bearings, and cleaned the pcv hose to the point where i have air moving. (What is the part number or whatever i need to replace on the intake?) ive done the valve cover mod only thing is… i watched a video before really seeing where cruiser drilled holes in flutes. My holes are drilled in the side. 🤦🏻♀️ is it rings….. or am I just missing Something. Gawd I hate to think I got to take this apart again. I have pictures of the head… there was only weld marks on the upper part where rockers are screwed in. Can someone just look over these pics and see…. If yall see ANYTHING that I'm missing. I am running 15w40 diesel oil. Gah. Help this is prior to cleaning and modding the valve cover what is the part or link for this end of the pcv thingy.… i scraped and cleaned all of this. I thoughhhht everything looked good here. But can anyone read the lines? Only thing i see are the welds… nothing anywhere else…. And honestly…. Didnt have blowby until AFTER i replaced everything… but bent pushrod was there. Thats why i replaced what i did

Eagle_SX4
6 hours ago, fiddlermj said: I am running 15w40 diesel oil Were you running the same oil before you changed all the parts? Did you also change the oil pump? What is your oil pressure? If you have excessive oil pressure it would shoot to the top of the valve cover and get sucked into the air box no matter what mods you have done to the valve cover. fiddlermj
I have always run 15w40. I did not change oil pump just cleaned the pickup. I have no idea how to check oil pressure with idiot gauge. But i thought maybe it could be that, or the filter is severely clogged after cleaning changing, and just need to change it… again.
Eagle_SX4
I bought an equus oil pressure gauge at the local parts store. Like this one. https://www.autozone.com/gauges-and-gauge-accessories/oil-pressure-gauge/p/equus-white-2in-mechanical-oil-pressure-gauge/255972_0_0 Any parts store should have one. It is a mechanical gauge and you need to add a tee fitting to were the oil pressure switch is on the engine.
fiddlermj
Ok. Ill do that. But yea i thot the oil shooting out like that was insane. But wasnt sure where to go with that….i figured oil pump but it was working fine before. So 🤷🏻♀️
Pete M
time for an upgrade to a full gauge cluster. be super DUPER careful when messing with the oil pressure switch stuff. they like to snap right off.
fiddlermj
I actually have a full gauge cluster to put in it… but kinda got stumped at the back of it matching with the speedometer and plugs and just said hell with it. I actually snapped the little wire for the PRNDL and jerry rigged it. Right now P is N and D is 2 🤣 but seriously think a new oil pump will fix this issue? 75sv1
I doubt a new oil pump will fix 'Blow-By'. I've dealt with it on my '88 MJ. I think your VC seal is leaking. I'd also upgrade the VC to a 93-95 XJ valve cover. Also, to the 96-2001 rear CCV tube and fitting at the Intake manifold. Also, possibly a quick fix, it to put a breather element on the front fitting of the VC. Where the tube goes over to the Air Filter box. That's removing the tube to the air filter box. So, oil won't be sucked into the air filter box. No, I haven't done that one yet. Also, I think the later pressed metal VCs are better at the oil control. If it cheers you up, I am dealing with this on a 2010 Chevy Avalanche. Chevy redesigned their VC 3 times. I pulled the engine as one of the AFM lifters collapsed a couple of months back. I was heading on vacation. When I pulled the intake, there was oil in the intake. probably 1/4 of a quart. Anyways, waiting for the block to be done. On a cheerful side, I think I fixed my miss issue with my '00 XJ. I put to long of pushrods in. Sorry, don't mean to Hi-Jack your thread.
