Speedometer cable issue?

Recommended Posts

Possibly a dumb question, but my speedometer cable was recently replaced by a shop and now the needle randomly jumps all over the place and it makes this noise after I get up over ~ 25mph

What would cause this?

Hopefully the video clip works

yeah, that's nuts.  I'd wonder too if it's attached correctly at the back of the speedometer.  A cable that is binding internally causes jumping of the needle.   The needle slows down (drops below actual speed) as the cable begins dragging and then jumps higher as the cable unloads in the housing and then the process repeats itself.

That yours pegs out and stays there makes me wonder if it's not attached correctly or the inner cable is slightly too long and jamming up the works.
