sammisox Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Possibly a dumb question, but my speedometer cable was recently replaced by a shop and now the needle randomly jumps all over the place and it makes this noise after I get up over ~ 25mph What would cause this? Hopefully the video clip works IMG_0704.MOV
eaglescout526 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 That’s not right at all. Have you checked the cable yet?
sammisox Posted July 11, 2023 Author Posted July 11, 2023 Sorry got caught up working and then researching external trans coolers and fuel injectors. Gonna dig into it tomorrow, just didn’t know if someone had this issue before
eaglescout526 Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 I have never seen it but it really isnt right. I would check to see how it is routed and installed. it acts like it has a kink.
gvthnks Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 yeah, that's nuts. I'd wonder too if it's attached correctly at the back of the speedometer. A cable that is binding internally causes jumping of the needle. The needle slows down (drops below actual speed) as the cable begins dragging and then jumps higher as the cable unloads in the housing and then the process repeats itself. That yours pegs out and stays there makes me wonder if it's not attached correctly or the inner cable is slightly too long and jamming up the works.
Car Enthusiast Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 They might have put the longer cable on. I did that on mine and it had some sharp bends. That make the cable bind then release causing it to jump on the tach
sammisox Posted July 13, 2023 Author Posted July 13, 2023 Yes I’m guessing that’s the problem because everything is seemingly connected fine, but the cable is long as heck
