Oxygen sensor voltage narrow fluctuation.

This is using my newly installed REM and reading through the XJBlueTalk app.  

O2 sensor voltage only fluctuates between 3.4-4.0v  but never fluctuates outside that range.  This would seem to tell me the o2 sensor is communicating with the ECU, but that the sensor is at the very least, lazy if not bad.   

 

vehicle runs okay, with a slight stumble off idle sometimes but never goes into closed loop and registers lean all the time.     

Just wondering your thoughts.

With KEY ON check for Battery Voltage (B+) at D2_9.

With KEY OFF, disconnect C229. On the component side measure OHMs(Ω) between C229_A and C229B. Looking for ≈6Ωs.

Lazy is a good term for slow response time.

Have good battery + voltage on D2_9.

 

Ohms between A and B on the sensor side of that connector are 3.5k Ohms

 

So if it should read 6-ish, I'm way off.

Is this one of the new metal body sensors with 4 wires coming out into three at the connector? I’ve had nothing but problems with those from 3 or 4 “manufacturers”, try to find a NOS Jeep one with the ceramic body. And yes, resistance between A&B should be 5-7 ohms.

It's an older ceramic bodied sensor that's been in place for 20 years or so.

Update:  Changed the O2 sensor with an NTK23553 from local store.   The snout of the new sensor is shorter than the old one but it seems to be working fine now.   At least it's oscillating up and down like normal and the truck goes into closed loop and the REM reports Rich/Lean in response to the voltage oscillations.
