pastLart Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 I have owned this MJ since 1989 and recently notice the end of a rubber hose hanging below engine that I now can see from a distance that I had not seen before. The hose is about 1/2" and is secured at the top with a cable tie to the hood release cable near the washer reservoir. the lower end is just hanging down below near the oil pan, the exhaust manifold, the steering column, and the transfer case(?). I think the plastic fitting on that end has broken off something but I don't know what. as I am parked on a city street it is difficult for me to examine. I have taken photos with iPhone and I own the original shop manuals (red books) but to find info in them I have to know where to start. any help will be appreciated.
eaglescout526 Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 If I had to take an absolute guess. It should be the breather hose for the front axle. I don't know where it’s located as I ironically have an XJ in 4wd but I have seen the top pic under the hood before.
Drahcir495 Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 I would agree with eaglescout - it looks like a breather hose minus the top of the plastic
pastLart Posted May 21, 2023 Author Posted May 21, 2023 Thanks all, the picture is particularly helpful. if I can fix it tomorrow ( not easy on a city street and at my age) I will post photo
