1988 Jeep Pioneer

4.0L  5 Speed  2 WD  Short bed

Built on 05/28/1988 I purchased it in June of 88 from Tex Earnhardt Jeep Store on Scottsdale Rd in Scottsdale AZ.  It was a friend of family deal as I was converting new zero miles Dodge vans into custom units for his Mesa store.

Boise Idaho but the truck has lived in Washington DC, Ogden UT, Phoenix / Coolidge / Cave Creek / Mesa / San Carlos AZ,

Status: Still kicking @$$, passes emissions with flying colors with really low scores, doesn't burn oil and has all the power it did when I bought.  All of which I attribute to reading the fine print that said "let the engine warm up to 100 degrees before driving".  The only time I have not let it warm up first was when I was rushing my pregnant wife to the hospital.

Things I have replaced: Radiator bottle, injectors (right the BEEP one month out of warranty), shocks, electric radiator fan (still doesn't work), tires, bed (due to Cadillac parking itself on top of the original one in 1992), tune up stuff, water outlet & thermostat, u-joint, starter, battery w/ relay (found out in the end it was just a cable that had gone bad.....) and that is about it. Biggest problem right now is was rear differential was ratcheting on a tight super slow turn on a dirt road and the steering wheel no longer is center on the horizon, can't be good and every once in while the shifter locks ups which is also not good, at all especially in rush hour traffic......

Notes: Stock never modified ready for restoration.  Was featured in a syndicated beer column written by yours truly for Brewing News often referred to and described as  "Jeepy the Wonder Heepy First Cousin to Exxon Valdez" but in reality it wasn't really laying a fog smoke screen from the brewpub (to lose the police) that was visited upon by Badbob and the Wif reviewing brew halls and bathrooms in the series. I also later used to haul off the lathe and plaster from a 3 story bungalow I restored.  98 trips of the rear shocks bottomed out for 14 miles  and always bouncing back after every load to the landfill. It has traveled the length and width of the US 3 times, been in Canada and Mexico and has more stories to tell.

Current owner: Robert Kuhn original owner
