big66440
Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone else has issues with the oxygen sensor heater circuit failing after just a few months of use? my 02 sensors (I've tried both Bosch and NTK) last only about 7-8 months and it's always the heater circuit that fails, any help would be appreciated it, thanks. cruiser54
Actually, that's what usually fails. That sensor must have an excellent ground. Check yours with a meter at the sensor plug, harness side. You have completed Tips 1,3,4, and 5 at my website, right?

Yes I have, Based on the condition of the spark plugs on cylinders 3 and 6 I have quite a bit of oil consumption, I wonder if that could be causing the issue. cruiser54
How old are the plugs and what brand? Distributor cap and wires? Ever done this? http://cruiser54.com/?p=
big66440
Cap, rotor and spark plugs are less than a month old (Duralast cap and rotor- made in USA and Champion 344 spark plugs RC12YC if I remember correctly). I’m thinking of adding an additional ground just for kicks. I’ve completed all of your Renix tips cruiser.
cruiser54
Add the ground for sure.
75sv1
What's the color of the cap? Also, aluminum or brass posts? I think my last one was a Duralast gray one. I was having issues starting. The cap was cracked. Maybe due to wheeling and water. I reused a black brass post cap and rotor. NAPA I think. Someone told me he had issues with aftermarket gray colored caps. ??? Someone told me he had issues with aftermarket gray colored caps. ??? Both the cap and rotor are grey and have brass posts/contacts, I'll be honest with with you but the fact that the cap says "Made in USA" makes me feel confident it's a quality piece, the rotor has no writing on it but it came in the same box as the cap so I'm assuming it's from the same manufacturer. I pealed off the electrical tape for the wires to the knock sensor, coolant temp sensor and oxygen sensor and found out all 3 wires for the oxygen sensor had been "repaired" at one point with very crappy looking soldered sections of wire beginning up close to the front of the valve cover, I re-soldered fresh new wires and replaced the connector as well as added an additional ground cable that grounds to the frame for the heater circuit. I noticed right off the bat the rich/lean fluctuations are happening quicker ( according to the REM) and the engine feels more responsive, I will keep you guys updated on this issue, thank you. cruiser54
Sometimes the harness gets routed improperly and melts. Here's how it goes.
