Yoopermanche20
Hey guys, I’m sure there’s already a thread on this, but I’m trying to install new mirrors on my 89, it only has the small mirror on the drivers side. I’ll upload a few photos, but what other hardware do I need to install these mirrors? Any help would be great.
CornFed
I just done it to mine on the passenger side this week. You need to pull the door panel off. Remove the black plastic piece by removing one screw then gently pry out from the window side. Unbolt the out plastic trim piece. I used self taping bolts because those mirrors aren't threaded. Put the seal in between the mirror and door. Install the self taping bolts. Tighten it down. Reinstall black plastic trim piece on the inside and put the door panel back on. Maybe a 20 minute job. I plan on doing the drivers side later this week and remove the small mirror over there. I'm going to try and stick a bolt with a rubber o ring down into the hole where the original mirror was and then tighten it down so it don't leak. This is a temporary solution until I paint the truck because I cannot find a better one. So I'm open to suggestions there. If you need any help at all let me know and I'll try and elaborate. eaglescout526
here's what I have learned with the aftermarket scene of mirrors. First: don't. Second: they fit mediocrely, honestly I wish they were better but they arent. I had one that would not stay tight and all because they arenth threaded so they have to be threaded and once theyre threaded and you get them tightened, they love to strip. So honestly if you guys can, get an OEM mirror just because of this. Now granted these will get you out of a pickle if you can't make a run to a junkyard to get one but otherwise theyre crap. watchamakalit
Be careful removing the mirror block off plate. The tabs on the back like to break upon removal.
cruiser54
Get 97 and later mirrors. Bolt right on and they're bigger.
