watchamakalit
I have all my cruise components installed but it won't engage. All the info I'm finding says to connect the amc tester to test function of the module. Is there a way to test it without said tool?
87MJTIM
There are number of tests you can perform with just a DVOM and a test light. The module just helps narrow down the places to test. The steps are detailed in the 88 electric service manual.
eaglescout526
Pretty much what 87 said. A test light can do quite a bit but something that it can’t do is trigger the solenoid to engage which makes it challenging if you need to test the solenoid. Do you have factory installed parts, your own from a donor or one of my kits?
watchamakalit
Donor. Came from a parted xj. I'll look in the electric manual. Didn't think about it for some reason.
eaglescout526
Both electric manual and FSM have testing procedures for cruise control. 8/10 times it’s the control box. The other 2/10 is things that rarely fail or a vac leak.
watchamakalit
Is there a way to test the vac side with a vac pump? If I pull vac at the servo it should hold correct? Just thinking of ways to narrow it down. I was told by the seller of my cruise stuff that he never had it working so no idea if the brain is even any good. I am going to Rons on sunday. I think he has a brain box or 6...

But you should be able to test the servo and the lines with a vac pump. I recommend trying to give the servo power while using the vac pump to verify the servos internals are working.
