irieco
I would like to get a consensus on tire size with a Peugeot 2BF18 / AKA BA10. Do you think I will be OK initially with 33 inch tires? I'm not going rock climbing anytime soon. Specs: - 4.0, 2BF18 (BA10) manual trans, NP231 - 2.72 ratio transfer case, Dana 30 front, ? 30 or 35 rear. Will be upgrading in the future but the cost of this project right now is overwhelming. Thanks, L.C.
jdog
235/75/15 if you don't wanna re-gear/ change the 35. anything over that and you'll be stuck in the slow lane

If driven carefully and not over-stressed it can serve for a long time -- but not trying to spin 33-inch tires. The same applies to the Dana 35 rear axle, which is what you probably have. jdog has suggested 235/75-15s as a practical tire size. I ran 30x9.50s for years on my '88 XJ with the BA10/5 and a dana 35. 30x10.50s are almost exactly the same diameter as 235/75-15s, they just have a bit more tread width. Pete M
I blew up both a dana 35 and a peogeot (not at the same time) on "monstrous" 30 inch tires on my 2wd daily driver. I don't have any faith in either part. your mileage may vary. you are putting the cart before the horse here. very common. big tires are the end goal, not the starting line. start with the drivetrain upgrades and then the axle/gearing upgrades, and then the armor/recovery upgrades, and then the lift and the tire upgrades. Flies like a bat out of hell. They were brand new when I parked her but they're baked Alaska now. I mis-spoke when I said 33s. I want wide tires, not tall. I found some 31x13.5x15s. These were the widest for the size. I can't drive her to my nephews garage with the current set. He has all the equipment for the mods. Pete M - "I don't have any faith in either part". Me neither. I just thought I'd ask. I know I blew out the rear spider gear once. High speed dump of the clutch. I also just found some paperwork from 94 that lists a drive chain, springs, and syncro assembly. So I guess I had tranny work done also. Must of been one heck of a year... I don't remember! There's a reason for the "cart before the horse" approach. Trying to get my son more interested in the build. Right now he just sees a sun baked pickup that needs a boat load of work.

Quote I also just found some paperwork from 94 that lists a drive chain, springs, and syncro assembly. There are no chains in the transmission. That must have been a transfer case rebuild.
