Location of VIN numbers

Can you tell me where I can find the VIN plates on my 90?

I can't speak for a '90. My '88's are located on the driver's door, the radiator support, and also has one in the glove box.

What I've seen on my '88: there is one on the dashboard, a steel tag right inside the hood on the drivers side fender/cowl, the last few digits are stamped in the front crossmember.  There is likely something on the frame and bed somewhere in the rear, as well as a few other spots.

 

How are you planning to do the swap?

I have seen a VIN plate on the crossmember under the radiator (or by) in an 89 4.0L 2 door XJ.

all I know is I've been trying to find a vin tag in the back half of an MJ (i.e. my trailer) for a couple years now and failed.
