Lungshot
My '88 MJ Pioneer has been intermittently (hot or cold) slipping out of gear and not up-shifting to 3rd. I've had the tranny serviced with an additive that did help for about 6 months. The previous owner had the tranny serviced twice before I bought it. I installed a new TPS which had no affect. Are there any other things I might look at before I head to the transmission shop? Thx
ghetdjc320
Is it an aw4?
cruiser54
Did you adjust the TPS? Have you completed Tips 1 through 5 on my website? Tip 10?
Lungshot
getdjc320: I looked for an ID plate on the tranny but couldn't find one, so not sure if it's an AW4. Cruiser54: I did adjust the TPS 4-pin output voltage, but no affect (I then readjusted the 3-pin output voltage to spec). I'll complete the remaining steps ASAP! Thx again! cruiser54
If it's a 4.0, it's an AW4.

cruiser54
Have you adjusted the throttle valve cable? There's a youtube video on it. Needs to be done.

Lungshot
I have the TV cable version that is located behind the throttle body. When I push the button down the "cap-like" looking thing is fully retracted. After I depress and release gas pedal, it remains in the same position. Is the ratchet worn out? See pic... BTW, shifting problem is still intermittent...
