TheDude Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 I'm putting a clutch in my friends 86' 2.5 4wd 4 speed. But I have a spare 5 speed I could swap in for him, I am just not sure if anything else needs changing. Are drive shafts the same length? Are both transmissions the same length? Any help would be appreciated. Founding Member of the Comanche Preservation Society
eaglescout526 Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 The only thing different between the two AX’s is the addition of a fifth gear. It should be a direct plug and play swap. But if his is an 86 it might have the external set up in which case you will have to swap the front bearing retainers as one has a metal sleeve that goes over the input shaft while the internal slaves do not.

But the trans isn't any longer due to the overdrive gear?Founding Member of the Comanche Preservation Society
