Hello,

I'm new on here. I’ve had my 1990 pioneer 4.0 for about 6 years now. It currently has 243,000 miles on it. Engine blows and leaks oil everywhere so I took the entourage of a 1991 yj that runs great.  If anyone could help me it would be greatly appreciated. I know it’s possible because almost every thing is. What I would like to know is if it’s easy and worth it. I have basic knowledge but never have swapped an engine or even replaced one.

thanks in advance

Long block is the block and the head

So the complete engine. I would switch the intakes and exhaust to make it easier.

Yes 4.0 is same. Motor mounts will be different. Fly wheel be same if same trans otherwise swap that as well. Intake and exhaust varies if you had a h.o. version. Which you shouldn't. Your alt bracket and and ac brackets varies so best to keep yours. Best is replace block with head still attached. With it torn apart though be best time to reseal everything and replace rear main seal as well. Water pump may be different as well so double check that. If not in a rush take time do it right and clean things up and replace maintenance things as needed and to ensure good life.

Flywheel won't be the same. 1990 is still Renix -- 1991 is Chrysler. He'll have to use the old flywheel or flex plate.
