watchamakalit
I swapped my d30 tho CV shafts recently. However I developed a leak on the drivers side. Stopped at the parts store and picked up a newinner seal and a jug of gear oil inn my way home tonight. Tore the front all apart only to find my inner seal in great shape. After much head scratching and investigating I found the inner diameter of my seal is much larger than the outer diameter of the CV shaft. So back tho the parts storeto look forthe correct seal. My front axle it's from a 90mj. The seal I originally purchased was correct for it factory. The seal listed for a zj has the correct id that I need but was too small on the od. So is there a seal with zj id to fit the CV shaft that will fit my mj housing? Jeep Driver
I have the ZJ shafts, no problem. Did you compare shaft to shaft? What year ZJ?
ghetdjc320
I’m assuming the parts store may be thinking that you have a vacuum disconnect axle?? You are referring to the seals that sit right beside the ring and pinion in the axle tubes correct? Or do you have a disconnect housing and are trying to swap to one piece shafts? watchamakalit
I have a disconnect housing and am installing one piece shafts. I am refering to the seal on the drivers side (short shaft) just outboard of the carrier. I ordered new ahafts from rock auto for a 98zj. I'm wondering if I have the wrong drivers side shaft. watchamakalit
Does anyone know offhand an of measurement of a 98 am drivers side shaft where the seal rides? I believe mine measure 1.128". But thats from memory of what I measured last night and I'm not home to confirm. Jeep Driver
Take your old shaft into Autozone, compare. If same, pay and go, be happy. Now you have an aggravation.

You ordered for a '98ZJ and what you got was a '99WJ shaft. When you go to Autozone, have them pull one for a '94.
watchamakalit
Is the wj shaft a smaller diameter shaft? My build: https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?url=https://comancheclub.com/topic/8033-finally-found-onenow-it-has-a-new-floor/&share_tid=8033&share_fid=53169&share_type=t
watchamakalit
I stopped by an oreileys today. The WJ shaft is indeed a smaller diameter. Really thinking I got shipped a misboxed shaft. The part numbers on the boxes matched my order. watchamakalit
Ok the saga continues. I picked up another shaft for a 97 zj. The shaft itself looks to be correct diameter, but the section from just outboard of the seal to the inboard end of the shaft are smaller diameter. Have done any exact measuring on it yet, but it looks to be the same diameter as my current shaft. I have double and triple checked the seal size and number. Does anyone have a part number for a known good CV shaft that will work with my front end? I'm pulling my hair out on this one. The axle is out of a 90 or 91 mj. Been so long since I pulled it I can't remember for sure. I will get some measurements and pics when I get to the shop. Jeep Driver
Your options are- Install your original shaft. or https://www.timken.com/products/timken-mechanical-power-transmission-products/seals/redi-sleeves/ or PnP for used OEM ZJ shafts. or Go to Autozone and buy an OEM rebuilt shaft.
