Thanks.

The cruise control isn't functioning but I'm not so sure I want to get in to tackling it. If I remove things, I wanted to make sure I was removing the right things.

From what I read, the CC for renix is either a simple fix or pulling teeth.

Well there is one way to test the harness and I just used a test light to test some of the components like the stalk control. There is a servo test procedure in the FSM that I did to make sure both my servos were good. But for testing the box, there really isn't a way to test it, but how the dealer "tested" it is you have to set the dials at the 10 10 and 3 o clock positions. The two tens would be the dials closest to each other and the three o clock being the dial on the other side. That's how the dealers tested it just to give a base to function.

The pulse generator requires you to lift the vehicle in the air and test the pulse sensor with the vehicle on and in gear with a multimeter to test the output. I can't remember if it is in AC or DC you test the pulses. 

 

As Warren said, vac lines can be a culprit to.

 

I will have to get to my FSM tomorrow unless you have the electronic one to consult.  I to a degree documented it but didn't in my build.

I worked on a bunch of these in the past you test everything around the controller if all checks out replace yellow controller, we did have an LED tester that plugged into harness in place of controller that showed function of switches-inputs made it fairly easy, could probably find on Ebay I wouldn't turn screws on controller, they are factory set and are VERY touchy

Yup. Guy wants that much for a very obsolete and almost non existent cruise set up tester. Supposedly a lot of the other car companies of the 80’s used the DANA cruise control system but all I found was AMC and Ford used them.

there were others that did same thing, this was the one  I used WAY TOO MUCH $. I just looked some as low as $50 you have to see if they would adapt to AMC

See I was genuinely looking for a older GM tester or something like such including the Kent Moore tools but was worried that the tester wouldn’t plug into that AMC control board plug. And I didn’t want to dump money into something that would be used sparingly.

don't blame you, most tests could be done with a volt/ohm meter just takes a lot longer, these were good systems most times problems were vac or switch stalk related. a lot of times just dump valve on brake pedal got out of adjustment
