COM86
Has anyone done, heard or seen if anyone has relocated the fuse block from under the dashboard to the engine compartment? My future plans for another truck, a 1960 Ford f350, is do do that. Originally the fuse block was 4 fuse block on the light switch. I picked up from a junkyard a fuse block and cover from a Ford truck (with a Ford logo) and I'm going to have it mounted on a fender housing. Now for the Comanche, I will be doing a clutch replacement, possibly engine swap with a.c. install. With body work, and Raptor paint. With the a.c. adding, i will need to remove the dash to install the condenser and stuff. (I'm 6ft.5 and I don't want to lay on my back to install it). So since I'm removing the dash why not relocate the fuse block too. Any good or bad comments are always welcome.
Manche757
Moving the fuse box from below the clutch/slave cylinder is a totally worthwhile thing to do and this is a good question. Has no one done this? Come on capable CC guys, any experience here? Did Cruiser54 and JeepDriver go into hiding?
neohic
A long while back I recall someone moving their fuse box over to the passenger side footwell much like in the ‘97+ XJs. The member used a block from an ‘80s (I think) Cadillac but it’s just another GM box just like ours. I don’t see any issue with moving the box but I’m not sure if I’d put it under the hood unless it went into a sealed container. Here’s a quick how to on taking apart the fuse block chassis instead of cutting/splicing every wire: https://comancheclub.com/topic/45231-fuse-block-dissection/
0regon
I just finished moving my fuse box. Kinda. My mj sat for a long time before I got it with brake fluid from the master cylinder leaking all over the fuse box so the terminals and about six inches of the wire leading up to them were badly corroded. I ended up making my own fuse box and relocated it to above the drivers foot well. Keeping the factory box would have been easier, just a matter of extending each wire. Any specific info you’re looking for?
